Compassion that Builds a Family Luke 20:9-18

INTRO: When God planted His first garden He placed in it Adam and Eve. Genesis 2:15 He told them to rule and cultivate and keep it and to multiply. This was the beginning of God bringing humans into His family. This was Jesus’ world view.
The Parable Paints the picture of God’s partnership with His family to produce good for all people.
OPEN: The parable tells a greater story of a love and compassion that suffers so that others might be a part of this family.
NOTE: However Sin Attempted to divert this plan. So God in His Compassion and love called a guy by the name of Abraham.
Genesis 12:1-3 “Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go forth from your country, and from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, and make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.’”
Isaiah 5:7 “For the Vineyard of the Lord of host is the house of Israel.”
NOTE: So throughout time, God has longed to have a family full of all races of people and he has chosen to present this offer through Israel and Now through the church.
B. This is the Compassionate Offer v.10-18 Very Specific
NOTE: we discussed the landowner is God. He has gone away but sends servants to receive produce. Grapes is the produce in the parable but in Israels History produce is souls, people brought into the family.
1. The Plan is to Bless all Families of the Earth. v.10-15
a. Harvest: God’s plan has always been to bring other into the family. v.10a
NOTE: So He blesses the families of the earth by telling them how they can become a part of His Family.
ILLUST: Luke 10:2 “the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. so pray to the Lord of the harvest to send workers into his harvest field.”
b. Slaves: Prophets of old V.10-12
ILLUST: The Lord spoke through Ezekiel concerning Jerusalems sin and why they were being captured.
Ezekiel 33:26 “You rely on you r sword, you commit abominations and each of you defiles his neighbors wife. Should you possess the land?”
Ezekiel 33:31 “They come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words but they do not do them, for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart goes after their gain.”
NOTE: The Slaves of God were sent to turn people from death to life, from orphans to children. But this offer was rejected! They would beat and Kill them.
c. Beloved Son: Jesus is speaking of Himself here. He came to seek and to save that which was lost.
He predicts His own death while warning everyone who hears to turn from their sinful life and get right with God. V.13-15
NOTE: This is the Compassionate offer of God! I sent My Son!!! You can Give Your Life to follow Him or you can reject Him. But If you reject Him you choose death. VEry Specific Jesus world view.
2. Warned to Choose God’s family. V.16-18
This quote from Psalm 118:22 is a warning to build your life on Jesus because their is no other way.
Psalm 118:22 NASB95
The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone.
1 Peter 2:1–7 NASB95
Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For this is contained in Scripture: Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.” This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, The stone which the builders rejected, This became the very corner stone,
CLOSE: A Jesus world view rejects any other way to the Father but through His Sacrifice, His Son. A Jesus world view invites anyone to join His family through the death and life of Jesus Christ.
Todays culture, maybe more than ever, is filled with “spiritual” discussion concerning many ways to know God or God consciousness. But Jesus World View is clear, He is the Way the Truth and the Life. And this story of Compassion is a never ending story that Jesus has taken the place of all persons from all races in Death so that if they would trust in Him they can have life and be adopted into the Family of God. THIS MEANS YOU!
John 15:13-14 “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends, you are my friends if you do what I command you” That’s Jesus compassion.
ILLUST: Story of Rahab’s evangelism before Joshua came in to Jericho? Is this our passion, to build His Family with His compassion?
