LOOKING BACK

Jesus is the fulfillment of Isaiah 61:1-2

“The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me;

he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners;

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor; the year of Jubilee.”

Jesus now demonstrates that fulfillment by healing the sick and releasing those oppressed by sin and by evil.

Jesus healed in different ways last week showing us that there is no one formula for how God does things.

Set the Stage

Jesus took three disciples to a mountaintop to pray. There, Jesus’ clothing became a dazzling white. The disciples saw Moses and Elijah with Jesus, then a cloud came and God announced that Jesus is God’s Son and chosen one. Jesus then returns from the mountain to heal a boy tormented by a demon.
