sf983 - How We Can Move Mountains (Matthew 17 14-21
Matthew 17:14-21; 10:1, 8
Introduction
What was the disciple’s problem in chapter 17? Jesus said it was the smallness of their faith. In chapter 10 we are told they were given the authority over demons and indeed they exercised power over demons.
Often we see God’s people struggling because of the smallness of their faith (Matthew 6:30; 8:26; 14:31; 16:8)
Jesus challenges the disciple (and us) by comparing their faith to a mustard seed. It is not only the small size of the seed that is significant; it is the fact that the seed has life within it.
Our faith must be living and active. It must be growing. It takes time and cultivation for a seed to grow, so too with our faith.
The reason we do not move mountains is because our faith must be proportionate to the task before us. That is the problem here the demon was bigger than their faith.
Perhaps they thought they had arrived spiritually and had gotten lazy.
We must continue to grow spiritually, and thereby grow our faith, if we are going to be able to move mountains.
Romans 12:1-2 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Five Keys For Mountain Moving Faith…
1A. Have Faith In God
In His person, purpose, and power
2A. Accept the Fact thay You Ha ve a Mountain
Something too big for you to handle
3A. Invite God into that Problem
We must surrender the control of our problem to God.
We must kill our pride.
4A. Take Action
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
Live your faith, if you aren’t perhaps you lack faith.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
5A. Hold Your Course
Galatians 6:9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
2 Thessalonians 3:13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good.
Just continue doing whatever God has told you to do!
Whatever you do in faith do not undo in doubt!
Application
Your faith may move the mountain or you may just grow bigger in your faith until the mountain does not see so big anymore.
