16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Intro:
I. God’s love is Global
I. God’s love is Global
“For God so loved the world”
1. GOD: There is only one God. He is not a god among god’s He is the only God.
8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
a. God is love and God is the source of all love.
b. Elab a river, the water has to start somewhere. It has a source. Love has to come from somewhere. It comes from God.
c. His love is for everyone.
1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
d. The God of the universe has shown, His love to the world. That means everyone.
e. God’s love is extended to everyone.
f. Every race.
g. Every religion. Your religion will not save you, but the love of God will save you from your religion. (What God wants is a relationship with you)
12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry,
13 although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14 And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
i. God doesn’t just love Christians, or just good people. “For God so loved the world”
3 As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.
Havoc: Treat cruelly, to ruin. Saul did all he could to stop the spreading the spreading of the gospel.
k. God still loved him.
God’s love is overflowing.
2. God’s love extends into eternity past.
a. This means there was never a time when God began to love.
b. There was a time when you began to love your spouse, and when you spouse bean to love you.
c. But there was never a time when God began to love you. Before you were born, before the world was created, before the stars and moon existed, God loved you.
3. God’s love reaches to eternity future.
a. There will never be a time when God doesn’t love you. When you are no longer no this earth, God will still you. He has prepared a place for you.
II. God’s Love is sacrificial
II. God’s Love is sacrificial
“That He gave His only begotten son”
1. God loved the world to such an intense degree it resulted in Him giving His son. (HE GAVE)
a. God loved: God gave: Love always gives. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
b. Someone can give and not love. Someone can give to the church when it comes to thieves and offering and not love. But someone that loves will give.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
c. Love is a decision: You decided to love our wife. You decided to love your husband, not realizing that his hair would fall out one day, or that would snore at night.
e. Love always demonstrates itself.
f. STROY: Little boy writes his girlfriend a love letter.
“I love you so much I would climb the highest mountain for you. I would swim the deepest river, go through snow for you. P.S And if it doesn’t rain Friday night I’ll be over to see you”
g. When God sent His son He demonstrates His love for the world. Hallmark cards has the slogan: “When you care enough to send the very best” God decided to send His very best, His only begotten son.
2. God created man knowing that man would sin. Because of sin there needed to be a savior. That savior was His son.
a. He gave His son to be crucified. Crucifixion was the cruelest punishment ever devised by man. Elab on crucifixion.
b. He not only endured physical misery on the cross. All the sins of the world on Him. He cried out “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
c. Why did He suffer? For our sins.
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4 who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
d. God does not love because Jesus died, Jesus died because God loves us.
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
e. There is a world that needs to know that God loves them.
III. God’s love is personal
III. God’s love is personal
“That whosoever believeth is Him”
Whosoever: All, every.
Kids birthday party, but you can only invite so many kids. Means someone is left out, someone will get an invitation.
1. God sends the invitation to all, to everyone. No one is left out the invitation. That wouldn’t be real love if some were invited and some were not.
a. God extents His grace to the whole world. WHOSOEVER.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
b. The Bible couldn’t be clearer. God has made salvation possible for everyone.
Believeth: To have faith, to entrust. It’s more than just believing, it’s acting out on what you believe in.
c. A good illustration of this is the Passover in the book of Exodus. Elab the blood on the door post. They believed, but they had do what they were told to do.
d. A saving faith in not just believing the facts. James 2:19 “You believe there is one God you do well, the believe and tremble”
e. There are two groups of people, those who believe, and those who do not believe.
Acts 8:35-38
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.
36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?”
37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.
30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.
IV. Gods so is eternal
IV. Gods so is eternal
“Should not perish, but have everlasting life”
1. John 3:16 begins and ends in eternity. Beginning with God, who has no beginning and end, the verse concludes with a life which has no ending.
Everlasting life:
a. Once in heaven, always in heaven. Elab
Perish: To utterly destroy. Hell is a real place.
2. There is everlasting life for those who believe (put their trust in Jesus)
a. There is everlasting punishment for those who do not believe.
b. Once in hell, always in hell.
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Con. God has shown His love to all, and He extends His all to all. But you have to be willing to except it, be willing to receive the gift of love that He has for you through His son .
