There’s gonna be a resurrection….
Romans 8:29–39 NASB95
29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written, For Your sake we are being put to death all day long; We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Notice here foreknew
1. God has the ability to know in advance
2. He is able to see something before it is brought forth
3. He sees the son of God sanctified beforehand
God in His foreknowledge does not see us as sinners, but as sanctified and conformed to the image of His Son. His foreknowledge involves faith on God’s part.
Does His foreknowledge exclude anyone?
God work is initiated by predestination
We have talk about this word before meaning to know beforehand
Literally, to mark off beforehand, as one would determine the boundaries of a piece of land.
To predestinate is to determine from the start what the outcome will be.
In this contact this predestination is for sonship.
Just as ephesian say we where predestine to the adoption of sons.
Ephesians 1:4–5 NASB95
4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
1. God has declared the end from the beginning (he has aways wanted us to be sons)
2. God has determined beforehand that those He forknew be conformed to the image of his Son. Vs 29
3. Those He predestinated he also called. V30
God “marks off” beforehand the destiny of the sons of God.
Predestination has to do with sons of God, He has no plans for nonconforming.
Questions
1. is God passive in His foreknowledge? (No the lamb was slain before the foundation of the world)
2. is God free to excise His will to carry out His purpose?
3. does God predestine anyone to go to hell?
2 Peter 3:9 NASB95
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
2 Corinthians 5:14–15 NASB95
14 For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; 15 and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.
why?
Ezekiel 33:11 NASB95
11 “Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares the Lord God, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’
Lets look at verse 30
Romans 8:30 NASB95
30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
Here we see the miraculous demonstration of grace and a daring declaration of faith from God on behalf of the sinner.
All the above verbs – foreknew, predestinated, called, justified, glorified – are here.
By faith God spoke as if it has already happened. God puts Himself on the line for the sinner. His desire is that man be made righteous and be brought into His glory..
Here we find a great contrast between the man of chapter one and two and the man of chapter 8. This is the work of God.
Now look at verse 31
Romans 8:31–35 NASB95
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
As we come to the end of this division of the book, having seen the works of God on the behalf of the sinner, we must conclude,
“God is for us!!!”
As if there was any doubt…
The Holy Spirit goes on to declare that having been brought to a position of love and fellowship with God, nothing
Romans 8:39 NASB95
39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
“shall be able to separate us from the love of God. Verse 39
Justified – sanctified – Now we see Glorified.
Nothing can separate us.
So we see that God has brought man to a place of perfect assurance and blessed rest in His love.
We have seen God’s hand extended to us so the responds then becomes. What shall we say to these things?
Well I am glad you asked
We say
If God is for us who can be again us?
The if here mean since.
But on the other hand
For those who are on the other side.
1. No doubt where God stands in the conflict. ( we know where he stands)
2. This is no doubt as to the outcome (He will win)
3. God “always cause us to triumph in Christ.” (
2 Corinthians 2:14 NASB95
14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.
Who is against us?
This question is not out of doubt or fear, rather it is a challenge to the whole list that follows.
Verse 32
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?
God will freely give us all things including victory.
This term describes the attitude of God toward His children.
Did he spare His own Son?
1. God did not hold back His Son from all (everything he had)
2. God gave him graciously
The heart of God is her revealed, surely “God Is love.”
He delivered Him up for us all. Vs 32
1. God handed over His Son to wicked men.
2. God gave Him up for us all.
If god gave His best (all that he had,) shall He withhold anything of lesser value?
No, “with Him” He shall freely give us all things.
