Genesis 21:8-13
Genesis 21:8–13 (NASB95)
8 The child grew and was weaned, and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.
Sarah Turns against Hagar
9 Now Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.
10 Therefore she said to Abraham, “Drive out this maid and her son, for the son of this maid shall not be an heir with my son Isaac.”
11 The matter distressed Abraham greatly because of his son.
12 But God said to Abraham, “Do not be distressed because of the lad and your maid; whatever Sarah tells you, listen to her, for through Isaac your descendants shall be named.
13 “And of the son of the maid I will make a nation also, because he is your descendant.”
Prayer
Could God set in motion His plan for redemption through the life of Abraham and Sarah, although nature says it’s impossible? Sarah was past the child baron years, well past menopausal. Abraham who’s body the text described as dead. God make s promise to them, that through this union would come the fullness of God’s covenant that He will keep for him and his descendants after him. Genesis 17:9 (NASB95)
9 God said further to Abraham, “Now as for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.
Verse 8 says that the child was weaned. This was the child of the promise (Isaac).
We see here in the text the division among the flesh and the spirit. This is what jesus ment when He distinguished the difference between sheep and goat. Or when He divided those who would be on His right and those who would be on His left. Galatians 4:28–29 (NASB95)
28 And you brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise.
29 But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also.
In other words, we are all born with the same nature as Ishmael (the flesh), and Isaac was a miracle child, born to a closed wombed mother and a 100 year old father. This could only be done by the miraculous hand of God.
and here in the text we see that
