LIFE is Not  a GAME

The Clip reminds us, what we think can be wrong.

  • People will say, “Well I think” and then give their opinion.
    • “Well I think, the moon is made of cheese and if we could send a rocket ship back and forth from the moon we could feed the starving people of the world”
    • Nice sentiment – but dumb
    • They could be entirely wrong

            Here was a man who as a boy thought the wrong thing

            It cost him his dream.

            Only to find out years later he was totally wrong.

When we come to the wrong conclusions we do the wrong things.

            He thought the girl didn’t like him

            He never spoke to the girl again.

When we come to the wrong conclusion we go in a direction that actually keeps us from achieving what we desire most.

            Instead of developing a friendship relationship with her He avoided her.

He thought the wrong thing and missed what he was looking for.

What do the people you work with think success is?

            Promotion

            Making more money

            Is it a big house, shore house, big boat, another car

What is the media’s portrayal of success?

            To be the Life of the party

            To have the biggest and best stuff

What Is Success?

by Ralph Waldo Emerson
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the approval of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To give of one's self;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived -
This is to have succeeded.

What do you consider success?

Is your thinking correct?

I want to lay out for you what the Bible says is success.

A LIFE pleasing to God.

Success Is Doing God's Will

Doing God's will—faithfully, zealously, despite the absence of tangible rewards—is a worthy goal and a colossal success in itself.   —Craig Brian Larson, Leadership, Vol. 11, no. 1.

See: Matthew 12:50; John 4:34; Romans 12:2.

Eph 4:1  As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

The GAME OF LIFE is a game you can win or lose and nothing serious happens.

            You have to decide to go straight to work or go to college

            You have to decide to buy insurances or not

            You have to choose which path to follow at certain points of the game

            But it is only a game.

LIFE is not a game.  What we do with it has serious consequences.

For the next few weeks I want to lay out 4 Laws that will help you win at LIFE.

            Law #1 – LOVE

            Law #2 – Integrity

            Law #3 – Faith

            Law #4 – Excellence

By practicing these Laws you will win at LIFE.

  Better to love God and die unknown than to love the world and be a hero; better to be content with poverty than to die a slave to wealth; better to have taken some risks and lost than to have done nothing and succeeded at it; better to have lost some battles than to have retreated from the war; better to have failed when serving God than to have succeeded when serving the devil. What a tragedy to climb the ladder of success, only to discover that the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall!

Erwin W. Lutzer (1941– )
