James 4:1-11

James opens this passage with a question. “What causes quarrels and fights among the body of Christ?” James wants his readers to take a moment to evaluate where these tensions are coming from. Don’t keep fighting and making the same mistakes over and over again, but evaluate what is happening here.
We had a saying that, “Tensions provide learning opportunities.”
What do you think this statement means?
Sometime I hope to teach the learning cycle. It is a naturally occurring process where people interact, a conflict/tension arises, there is either a positive or negative outcome, but the problem is that we tend to move on to the next interaction without taking a hard look at our own failures in that situation.
What prevents us from evaluating the tensions in our lives?
Time. The trouble is that in our culture, we have to move at such a fast pace to get everything to fit into our day that we don’t take time to evaluate.
Is anyone afraid of failing? I am. This makes self-evaluation hard. We know we are supposed to look like Christ and we don’t look like Him as often as we should. It can be discouraging and we don’t like to think we have failed
