Psalm 19: 7 - 11
The Word of God
In verses 1 - -6, we have seen how David writes about God's creation: the heavens, the firmament, and the sun. Now, he turns his attention to the word of God. Two well-respected Christian commentators, Matthew Henry and Warren Wiersbe, both put it this way: God's glory and goodness appears in the works of creation; but it appears much more in divine revelation.
In Psalm 19, David sets out six truths about God's Word. Let's look at them:
1. The law of the Lord is __________, converting the soul.
David starts with the most important aspect of God's Word: it leads a person to salvation.
2. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The word "testimony" means a statement, or truth, that is ____________.
3. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart.
God's Word, and directions in it, are right. As we follow them, they will bring us __.
4. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
God's commandments are pure: there is no nuance, or second-meaning, or anything else like that. Because it is pure, it will _____________ our eyes. They will make us understand what we are to do, without any _____________.
5. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever.
Our God is a great God, an awesome God, a fearful God. He is due all our __________ and love and honor and more. Our fear also lasts forever; He never changes; He is immortal; He will __________ be God.
6. The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
God's Word is full of His judgments. He decides a matter according to His Word, but also according to His infinite ___________, and His plan, all working in conjunction.
David has taken us, in three verses, through six aspects of God's Word. In every instance, he tell s us that it is good and right. Just as we can rely upon the sun rising every day, we can more so rely on God's Word. It is true and right and profitable.
