The Perfection of the Promise(Vs. 19-31)

Spiritual Aspect

The Pursuer & The Pursued

The Pursuer, which in the case before us today is the Egyptians, is a picture of sin, slavery, bondage and in turn a picture of Satan.
And that old deceiver, the devil, is always on the prowl looking for some lost soul to blind and keep from coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
The Pursued, which here is the Israelites, is to me a picture of every soul looking to be set free from the bondage of sin and slavery!
Here the Children of Israel were, they were in bondage to Pharoah, in bondage of sin, and can I tell you that living in sin is never easy!
The life of bondage and slavery the Israelites were living in was harsh! They were working their hands to the bone. It was hot. It was long hours. There was no relief from oppression whatsoever!
And I’m here to tell you something this morning friend, if you’ve ever been lost you know exactly what I’m talking about!
A life of sin takes it’s toll on the body, the mind and the soul!
You feel as if you’re one of those hamster’s on one of those little spinning wheels and you’re just running your little heart out but don’t seem to be going anywhere, Amen!
You go, go, go but there is no relief in sight! You think it’s your girlfriend or your wife that’s a problem so you get rid of them to only find out they were the only thing keeping you even semi grounded!
You think it’s your job that’s holding you back so you get a different job only to find our the new one is worse than the old one!
You think it’s your family that’s holding you back so you blame it all on them and move away only to find out you’re lonelier now than you ever were before!
You try everything but the only thing that can actually bring you peace and comfort and that’s submission to the Lord Jesus Christ!
I’m here to tell you this morning friend, you can run as far as you can go, you can try everything under the sun to change your circumstances and it may work for a while but eventually those same old problems are going to creep back up and take hold because you’re fixing you’re problems in a worldly way instead of an eternal way!
If you want a fix that will last a lifetime friend, try God!
More specifically try His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ!
Then and only then will you find peace that surpasses all understanding!
Only then, can you quit running and face your battles head on!
Only then, will you be able to live a life without fear!
Only then, will you see things in a new light and a new perspective!
Only then, will things start to make sense and only then will it seem as though you are actually making progress in this race we call life!
Now, the devil wants to keep you from that and the same exact tactics he tried using on the Israelites, he still uses today!
He tells you there is nothing better. That there is no reason to believe in God or His Son Jesus. That it’s all just a big lie, a phony, that God doesn’t even exist!
Isn’t that what he did here?
The Israelites were in bondage. God’s man, Moses, showed up. He shared with them that God had a better way for them. That God had a better place for them. That God only wanted what’s best for them. And that all they had to do was believe and trust in Him and He would set them free, right?
But what happened?
Pharoah catches wind and makes life harder for them. He makes them work harder and longer to try and keep their attention on the world and off of God!
Isn’t that the same tools he uses today?
The devil has created an atmosphere here in the U.S.A. unlike most other places in the world besides China.
We work, work, work, chasing that almighty dollar to pay bills because we’ve gotten ourselves in debt up to our eyeballs.
Our work takes us away from our families and even worse away from God!
The devil says, “oh, you need to work a little more this week because you got those other bills coming up remember. It’s ok to miss one Sunday!”
Before you know it, you’ve missed a month of Sunday’s due to needing more, more, more and then it’s to the point you begin to think, “well, I’ve already missed this many, might as well miss some more!”
And then the next time you step foot in Church you find you’ve become one of those well known CEO Christians!
What’s a CEO Christian? Christmas & Easter Only Christian!
The devil tries and succeeds in keeping people from coming to the knowledge of Jesus Christ the same way he always has, by taking their eyes off of God and placing them on the world!
He’s a deceiver!
He almost had the Israelites persuaded that they’d be better off staying in bondage rather than trusting in God and I believe he’s trying to persuade someone of the same exact thing today!
If God is dealing with your heart this morning friend, but there is something telling you, “oh, you don’t need to be saved! You’re fine just like you are!”
I can assure you that’s the devil and you need to put that old dog to rest and come this altar right now and give your life to Christ!
If not, dear friend you’re in grave danger of being swindled out of an eternity of blessings just like he was trying to do to the Israelites here!
So, we see spiritual side of the Pursuer and the Pursued. Next, look with me at a real important detail that every person who comes to God must do in order for God to do what He wants to do!
Look with me at The Pleading.

The Pleading (Vs. 10)

So, here we are, the Children of Israel are camped out next to the Red Sea. They seen all of God’s miracles in the plagues and believed and have finally mustered up the courage to step out of the bondage of Egypt.
Now, off in the distance, they see their worst fear coming to life! They see Pharoah and his army heading their way!
The thoughts of evil, and bondage and oppression that they had just escaped, come roaring back to mind and immediately fear begins to set in!
But look at what the Bible says they do first here in Verse 10.
The Children of Israel cried out unto the Lord!
Listen to me this morning friend! If you think the devil is just going to let you waltz right out of the overthrows of sin without a fight, you’re wrong!
He doesn’t want you to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!
Therefore, he’s going to throw every piece of artillery and ammunition he has at you to keep you from being saved!
But....if you will do just as the Israelites did here, he won’t stand a chance, Amen!
They cried out to God!
And praise be to God when they did, God answered and delivered and He’ll do the same for you!
You see friend, you and I in our own strength are no match for Satan and his armies!
He’s been around a lot longer, he knows the tricks of the trade, he’s sly, he’s cunning, he deceives, he causes doubt, he instills fear, he bullies, he lies!
But when we stand firm on the foundation of God almighty, when we mount up with the armor of God, when God fights for us, there’s nothing that old devil can do to stop us!
Which brings us to the next point...

The Promise(Vs. 13-18)

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

The Perfection of the Promise(Vs. 19-31)

Psalm 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
2 Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Jude 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
