Today we are going to find out the heart of God and the core of Christianity.

Recap of Genesis 3:

Week 1 - the serpent is a best of the field that God had made
Week 2 - When we dwell on temptation the distance between our thoughts and our actions dissolve.
Genesis 3:8–13 ESV
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
If you have hear this many times you might overlook one of the most important parts of the Bible

God walking

Incredibly important
This is the foundation for our understanding of :
The 10 commandments
Life after death
Heaven & Hell
Revelation
Somehow God was physically present with Adam and Woman
Jesus was physically present after the resection
Point! God was fully present with his creation AND the goal of my life is to one day be able to walk with God in the cool of the day.
The most amazing part of the entire bible the heart of Christianity is:

Why does God ask where they are?

God already knows

Hide and go seek
Adam and Woman realize the were naked
When God asks a question he is not lacking knowledge. Rather he is wanting us to see reality.
Dialogue
9 - But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 - And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
11 - He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”
12 - The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.”
13 - Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Adam and Woman got what they wanted - new knowledge but they stop seeing reality.

Where are they after eating of the tree? Hidden among the trees.

ironic no? - the trees they could eat from
Woman I told you we should have gone to mangoes this morning
Adam! Shut up.
Hiding - Stuck in panic, heart raising - Filled with shame
Shame is born of disobedience
Look at how it unfolds
11 - God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”
12 - The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.”

Blaming Others

Adam blames 2 people. Woman blames the serpent.

It’s not my fault.

I wanted mangoes
The woman YOU gave
God If you really knew everything you would have known…
God why have you put me here?
Question directly indicates shame - you wouldn’t be asking God why you were in that mess if you didn’t feel shame. Travis is not asking me why he is under the trampoline. The woman was blessing for life - never the problem.
Having a job is blessing not a problem
Having a spouse is a blessing not a problem
Having a family is a blessing not a problem
The question is where is your shame in these areas coming from - NOT GOD!

What I did wasn’t as bad as what they did

I didn’t take it - She did
I didn’t steal the money, she stole it I just bought this TV with it.
Their the ones that _________ I just____________
God asks the woman
13 - Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Me? The serpent lied

It’s not fair I didn’t know this would happen

Not sorry for the actions - just sorry for the consequences.
The blame game unfolds from our disobedience and then we can’t see reality.
We are hiding from God - not reality

Conclusion

When we disobey God we are filled with shame and we stop seeing reality.
We blame other - including God and don’t take responsibility
The right answer to God’s Question who told you you were naked would be - I ate of the tree you told me not to eat from.
The most important aspect of the Bible is found right here.
God is still looking for you in your disobedience .
When you accept that you are unconditionally loved by God the feelings of fear began to dissolve - your eyes are currently deceiving you of the love of the father.
The way back to walking with God is Jesus.
