God's Got an Army
David is a type of the Lord Jesus

The Growth of David’s Army

1. At Ziklag

Ziklag is where a great loss had caused David’s own men to begin to turn on him.
It’s there that David encouraged himself in the Lord.
1 Chronicles 12:1–2 NKJV
1 Now these were the men who came to David at Ziklag while he was still a fugitive from Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, helpers in the war, 2 armed with bows, using both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows with the bow. They were of Benjamin, Saul’s brethren.
Men began to come and give their allegiance to David.
As David’s army began to grow, he appointed captains some over 100 and some over 1,000
1 Chronicles 12:15 NKJV
15 These are the ones who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all those in the valleys, to the east and to the west.
The Gadites lived on the East side of the Jordan, but came to join David and his men during the time when the river was considered impassable.
It’s time to Go BEYOND!
You will “put to flight those in the valleys to the east and west”
You’ve got to make up your mind, whose side you are on.
1 Chronicles 12:16–18 NKJV
16 Then some of the sons of Benjamin and Judah came to David at the stronghold. 17 And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, “If you have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if to betray me to my enemies, since there is no wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers look and bring judgment.” 18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the captains, and he said: We are yours, O David; We are on your side, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, And peace to your helpers! For your God helps you.” So David received them, and made them captains of the troop.
1 Chronicles 12:21–22 NKJV
21 And they helped David against the bands of raiders, for they were all mighty men of valor, and they were captains in the army. 22 For at that time they came to David day by day to help him, until it was a great army, like the army of God.

At Hebron

According to Chapter 23 of the Book of Genesis, Abraham buried his wife, Sarah, in a cave he bought in Hebron.
The Bible says he and other Old Testament patriarchs and matriarchs are later buried there as well, at a site now known to Jews as the Tomb of the Patriarchs
At Hebron a shift began to take place.
1 Chronicles 12:23 NKJV
23 Now these were the numbers of the divisions that were equipped for war, and came to David at Hebron to turn over the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the Lord:
1 Chronicles 12:28–29 NKJV
28 Zadok, a young man, a valiant warrior, and from his father’s house twenty-two captains; 29 of the sons of Benjamin, relatives of Saul, three thousand (until then the greatest part of them had remained loyal to the house of Saul);
The hearts of all men are in God’s hands.
When the proper time came for the promise made to David to be fulfilled, no efforts were needed to secure the throne.
One difficulty after another faded away.
One section after another of the people came to offer their allegiance.
And the signs of God’s gracious moving of men’s hearts towards David in due time were seen, in the devotion of themselves and their wealth and property to his service.
The men of might came, and offered him their weapons, their skill, and their lives.
The men of understanding came, and offered his their counsel and powers of rule and magistracy.
The men of wealth came, and offered abundant provisions for the host thus gathering round David (ver. 40).
1 Chronicles 12:32 NKJV
32 of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command;
Just 200 individuals who “understood the times” provided the leadership for an entire nation.
We need a true Christian Worldview.
Just a few years ago, James Dobson and Gary Bauer said:
“Nothing short of a great Civil War of values rages today throughout North America,”
“Two sides with vastly differing and incompatible worldviews are locked in a bitter conflict that permeates every level of society”
A Second Great Civil War
“Someday soon,” they said, “a winner [in the battle for our children’s hearts and minds] will emerge and the loser will fade from memory. For now the outcome is very much in doubt.”
In order to emerge victorious, we must quickly arrive at an understanding of the times and “know what they ought to do”
1 Chronicles 12:38 NKJV
38 All these men of war, who could keep ranks, came to Hebron with a loyal heart, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest of Israel were of one mind to make David king.
V. 4 “…there was joy in Israel”
They immediately turned their thoughts to bringing the ark back.

2018 “FORWARD”

The Philistines heard and gathered to attack.
1 Chronicles 14:8–12 NKJV
8 Now when the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went out against them. 9 Then the Philistines went and made a raid on the Valley of Rephaim. 10 And David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” The Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.” 11 So they went up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim. 12 And when they left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.

2019 “Momentum”

Working with God
1 Chronicles 14:14–17 NKJV
14 Therefore David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. 15 And it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” 16 So David did as God commanded him, and they drove back the army of the Philistines from Gibeon as far as Gezer. 17 Then the fame of David went out into all lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

2020 “No Theme”

There was a pause as they learned how to Handle the Presence of the Lord

2021 “BEYOND”

We are not always going to stand on this side of Jordan looking over.
We are not always going to be a just a band of misfits.
We are going to establish the Kingdom......
David enquired of the Lord and the Lord said go
