Elab before reading scripture.
Today two sisters, Mary and Martha. Brother lazareth.
The sisters were different. Martha was labored, Mary was a listened. But they both lived for Jesus and Loved Jesus.
They were friends of Jesus. Imagine being friends with the one that was teaching like no one had ever taught. The one who was performing miracles. blind, lame, lepers. The one everyone was talking about. The who who raise their brother from the dead.
He was their friend. He love them
John 11:5 NKJV
5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
6 days before the Passover as Jesu was going to Jerusalem where He would be crucified, Mary would washed Jesus feet
John 12:2–3 NKJV
2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. 3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
Before Lazarus life was restored, before Mary washed Jesus’ feet. Jesus made a visit with Mary and Martha. (Most likely not the first time)
Luke 10:38–41 NKJV
38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” 41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.

Listening to Jesus, Laboring for Jesus, Living for Jesus

Intro:
Luke 10:38 NKJV
38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house.
1. Both of these ladies loved the Lord. In scripture every time they are mentioned their love for Jesus is apparent!
Here, Martha opens up her home to the Lord and His disciples. It is believed that Martha was a widow and that Mary & Lazarus lived with her. She worked very hard to be a good hostess to the guests in her home.
a.If you knew that Jesus was going to physically come to your house and knock on the door this evening chances are you wouldn’t be here, you would be doing all you could to get the house in order for Jesus’ visit.
b. Many times we are so focused on our service to Jesus that we ignore Him in the process. That is exactly what happened to Martha. Notice …Martha was thrilled for Jesus to be in her home. No doubt, she desired to spend time with Him. But in her mind there were some things that had to be done first.
2. Elab on this story, Jesus knocking on their door.
