Why should I read the Bible?

Intro

People are spiritual

This is an intangible, abstract reality of humanity

There is something within us that longs to be connected to something bigger than ourselves

Social media trends, social justice movements, etc.

For the majority of “Spiritual” people, they have nothing that grounds them, they follow whatever seems right to them

For Christians, our desire to be spiritual, to know a higher power is grounded in the Bible

Not just a manual on how to live

Its more than just rules

God reveals who he is through the Bible

Christians don’t create a God based on what they think God is like, we learn who the God of the universe really is

Body

To know God

The Bible is about God, its His story, it reveals everything we need to know about God

Through story, through directly saying “God is...”

This is the most important thing about the Bible

Everything I do as a Christian is because of who God is

Yes the Bible has good, moral teachings in it. But those mean nothing without the God who created them, who gives meaning to them, who has an understanding of why they are important.

Do not murder

Why? From a non-Christian perspective, human beings are accidents created by a big bang with no inherent value.

From the Christian perspective, humans are created in the image of God. Worthy of love, dignity, respect, because of the one who created them.

The “rules” of the Bible mean nothing without the God who created them

To learn how God has called us to live

2 Timothy 3:14-17

The Scriptures point you to the person of Jesus

To salvation in Him

Dead in sins, alive in Christ

God’s word is sufficient to teach us

Psalms 119:130

God’s word gives us understanding of everything

The Bible is Authoritative

If something I think doesn’t align with the Bible, I am wrong

Christian

Do you base who God is based on the Bible? Or based on what you think, based on what the world tells you?

Do you care enough about your faith to learn and seek out who God reveals himself to be in the Bible?

Non-Christian

Where do you get your information about the world?

Social media, music, friends, culture

Are they reliable and true sources that are worth following?
