Let My People Go
Exodus 3:1-10
To view the heart of God we need only look at Jeremiah 31:33.
“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Jeremiah 31:33.
HE is a covenant keeper that longs for a relationship with HIS people. Abraham.
God sent Moses to deliver “His son”, the children of Israel, from bondage.
Exodus 8:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Later, God sent His Son Jesus to bring deliverance to the world. (This is the mystery that Paul is speaking of in Ephesians 2 & 3.)
In both deliverances we see the death of a son. With Israel, the sons of Egypt had to die as an act of judgement by God. With the world, the Son of God died as an act of God’s grace toward the world. John 3:16.
In the New Testament we see Jesus quoting Isaiah 61:1 said, The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. God sent HIM to be a Saviour!
We can see from Scripture that…
1. God has Sons
a. Exodus 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: son = beni = offspring, male or female. The offspring of God is the nation He created unto Himself.
b. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
We are the sons and daughters of God - 2 Corinthians 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Through faith in Jesus Christ, we become the sons and daughters of God.
2. God’s Sons In Bondage
a. Exodus 6:5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
b. John 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. We know that all have sinned… Even still today, Christians are found serving the flesh rather than the Spirit.
We all are, or were at one time, in bondage!
3. God Desires His Sons to Live Free
a. Let my people go – Exodus 7:16 And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.
i. Think about this, man has gone from serving GOD in the garden to serving HIM in the wilderness. (Talk about as long as we are in this world we are in a wilderness). The wilderness can be a lonely, cold, dark, and fearful place without God.
b. Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Grace, a way out of bondage.
c. Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Shall we be found guilty of wasting the very blood of Christ? If He purchased you that you might live free, why would you choose to remain in the bondage of sin? I’ve been purchased and yet I refuse to go free. How dare we chose sin and it’s lies over truth and freedom.
HE purchased us that we might be made free! To Pharaoh HE said, “let my people go”, to us HE says, “you are free to go.”
d. Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
God desires His children to be free! HE desired it enough to die for us!
4. God Desires His Sons to be Free that they may serve Him
a. That they may serve me – Exodus 4:23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.
i. Seven times God says, let my people go (1 time He says “son”). Seven is the number of completion. There comes a point where even GOD is through dealing with someone. In the NT, He turns them over to a reprobate mind. (Abandoned to sin).
b. Luke 1:74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. We cannot serve Him in sin.
c. Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
God desires is for you to be free. Free from the bondage of sin and shame. Free to have a close and personal relationship with HIM. God wants you to be a part of His people, to be one of HIS sons and daughters.
HE wants to be your GOD!
