Psalms Class #6

Notes
Transcript

David confidently turned to the Lord for divine instruction and forgiveness from his iniquity because of His mercies for Israel. This psalm is a meditation on the character of God that prompts the humble to respond with confession and prayer.

What does it say? (Observation)

What does it mean? (Interpretation)
How Can I make this passage a part of my Life? (Application)
*We rebuild/build our heart, our mind and our life during times of crisis, such as COVID-19 by:
1) remembering WHO GOD is
2) remembering Who We ARE
*LET’S REMEMBER GOD’S CHARACTER AS FOUND IN THIS PSALM ...
and consequently, WHO we should become!
Psalm 25
Of David.
1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul;
2 in you I trust, O my God.
Do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 No one whose hope is in you
will ever be put to shame,
but they will be put to shame
who are treacherous without excuse.
4 Show me your ways, O Lord,
teach me your paths;
5 guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
6 Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you are good, O Lord.
8 Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9 He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way.
10 All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful
for those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11 For the sake of your name, O Lord,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
12 Who, then, is the man that fears the Lord?
He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.
13 He will spend his days in prosperity,
and his descendants will inherit the land.
14 The Lord confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever on the Lord,
for only he will release my feet from the snare.
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 The troubles of my heart have multiplied;
free me from my anguish.
18 Look upon my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins.
19 See how my enemies have increased
and how fiercely they hate me!
20 Guard my life and rescue me;
let me not be put to shame,
for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope is in you.
22 Redeem Israel, O God,
Where did David’s confidence in God come from???
“No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame...”
David defeating Goliath
1Sam. 17:32...
How do we have that same confidence and courage???
Ephesians 1:18–20 NIV84
18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,

25:4–7. David prayed first for instruction (vv. 4–5; cf. vv. 9, 12) and guidance (v. 5; cf. v. 9). He desired that God would show him His ways, including truth, and teach him His paths. Then he prayed for pardon (vv. 6–7). Based on God’s mercy and love, which had been known for ages, he prayed that the sins of his youth not be held against him. (Three times he prayed remember.)

Why is it such a powerful prayer to ask God to v 4 “show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; v 5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior.
For me, I believe the answer lies in the fact that we can get so caught up in what God wants us to do, that I can easily forget who He wants me to be.
If I understand WHO I am supposed to be, I will be that person when no one is looking, when I am all alone, when only HE sees me!!!
What should happen to me if God truly shows me His ways?
What kind of person does God teach and guide (vv. 8,9,12)?
Sinners, the Humble n those that Fear HIM>>>
Regarding a humble heart, what is David attempting to tell us in V. 8-11?
He realizes that humility is paramount, his sin is great, God will guide us if we are humble.
Recognition of his sin.....His need for God...
VV 6-7
“When God remembers Who He is, He is prepared to remember NOT, what we have been!!!” the new bible commentary, d. a. carson
V12
How does the fear of the Lord result in greater intimacy with God?
