Introduction

We have all heard that question that asks, “Does a falling tree make a sound if there is no one around to hear it?” We know that in the reality of things, the falling tree does make a sound. But, if no one is around to hear it, then what purpose does the sound have? Likewise, we can ask if we didn’t have a sense of hearing, and the tree fell, would there actually be a sound? We can’t hear it, afterall. What if there were people who actually had ears and could hear the sound, and people who didn’t have ears, who could not?
In the case of the spiritual and the Word of Scripture, this is so. Those who have been born again, are born again with a new spiritual sense of hearing and understanding, while people who are not born again of the Spirit cannot neither hear the Word or make sense of its Words. In John 3:1-17, we see that Jesus said that being born again is the greatest need of all mankind if they are to see eternal life. This born again status allows us to make sense of the Bible and comprehend it and allows us to hear God’s voice on God’s spiritual channel. When we are born again, we truly are born with a sixth sense.
