Good evening guys, if you will go ahead an open up your bible to 2 Peter 1:3 and as you guys are turning there, I have a really important question for y’all.
What does it mean to live life to the fullest? Like was there ever a point in your life that you were like “THIS IS LIVING”. Maybe it was when you were on the back of the sled this week when your friend was pulling you down the street like a maniac? Maybe it was when the Cowboys won the Super Bowl, oh wait none of us have been alive for that. I am not sure when that is, but I know for me, one of the moments I felt most alive was when my wife and I went skydiving. And I’ll be honest. I got scared. Not just because we flew thousands of feet up into the air, but because the guy who was jumping with me was like half my size. Like what is he going to do if something happens. And to top it all off, on the way up, he just sits in silence, and I’m a nervous talker, so he just looks at me and says, you ready? Like that was it. “I’m about to jump out of a plane… Of course, I am not ready.” But sure enough we jumped, and it was one of the most incredible experiences ever. And you may think its because you are falling thousands of feet in a matter of seconds, or the pure thrill! But its actually the experience of seeing God’s creation in a totally different context. It’s breath-taking. I felt like I understood a little bit more about the vastness of who God is.
When we grow in our knowledge of God, we in fact grow in the abundance of life that we have.
Read 2 Peter 1:3-8
Every day in our lives there is this battle going on within us to grow more in the power of the spirit, grow more in the knowledge of who He is, ultimately growing in the love of Christ. And the power we need to fight this battle, this divine power that literally can speaks worlds into existence, brings the dead to life, and heals any disease known to man, is found when we grow in the knowledge of who He is. Not only does this divine power grow, but the abundance of our life grows as well. The knowledge of God leads to the worship of God, and in that worship we find the abundant life that God desired for us.
Know Him In His Word
Psalm 19 tells us that the law of the Lord is perfect, reviving to the Soul.
There are so many ways to know about God. You can study almost any subject and learn more about God, its beautiful. But the primary way we know who he is is through his word. We know of his incredible imagination through creation. We know of his faithfulness to his people through the story of Israel. We know of his redemptive love through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and we know of his final victory through Revelation. We know that all life is found in Christ which was created through Christ and for the glory and worship of Christ. And we know that in Him we find the way, the truth, and the life. The abudant, joyful, life-fulfilling life. And you know Him by knowing His Word. By opening it each and every day curious, yearning to know something more about God each day. And what you will see is that the faith you had to trust Him, the effort you put into knowing Him will translate into living a life that reflects Christ. A life of virtue, love, and ultimately worship, which is the calling God has placed on all of our lives.
Worship Him Together
Jesus tells the woman at the Well that he is a spring overflowing with abundant life, and that he who drinks from him will never thirst again. That’s the reality of the growing in the knowledge of God. He fills our life abundantly with every good and perfect thing, and then what happens is that abundant life overflows into our relationships and we start being life-giving to those around us as well. The life we find in knowledge of Jesus, was not a life that was meant to be lived alone. It openly calls other people into it. The current of the love of God brings people along with you. Life abundantly, is a life of worshipping God together in all that we do.
So as we overcome our selfish desires together, we worship God. As we open up our bibles each morning, we worship God. As we brush our teeth before we go to bed, we worship God. As we live our lives in excellence together, we worship Him, and as we sing together, we worship Him. Let our joy, our love, and our need for God grow everyday as we grow more and more in knowledge and in love with Him.
