The Right Perspective
The Right Perspective
The Sermon on the Mount is recorded in chapters 5-7 in the Book of Matthew.
Jesus delivered this message near the beginning of His ministry and it is the longest of Jesus' sermons recorded in the New Testament.
The Sermon on the Mount is by far Jesus' longest explanation of what it looks like to live as His follower and to serve as a member of God's Kingdom.
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.
“Judge not, that you be not judged”
The verb κρίνω can refer to legal decisions made at court, but it is also used more generally for forming judgments and reaching conclusions about things and people
Often times as believers we tell other believers - we are not suppose to judge others.
But I believe with the right perspective about how we judge people we lead to reconciliation and restoration
“For with the judgement you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you”
In this verse ‘measure’ means much the same as ‘judgment’ and the point is that one must expect the same standard of measurement to be applied to both parties
Society will not tolerate a critical person who exempts himself from standards to which he expects others to conform
I hate to say it but so many people are self righteous…
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
Jesus is not saying that you shouldn’t have discernment and make certain judgments
But He is saying is before you want to try to get someone else straight first…
Check yourself first....
What’s in your life that is a Log…
Take Note! What about you that needs to change…
Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye?
Jesus goes from noticing to doing…
It’s one thing to think it but it’s another things to say it…
Your Bold!
“Let me take the speck out of your eye”
Jesus is not saying don’t help others but He is saying Help yourself first…
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
“Hypocrite”
It is someone who fails to examine himself and whose estimation of himself is too high
“First take the log out of your own log”
This is a process but you have to be open and honest…
The Log could represent so many different things:
How you treat your spouse
Parenting
Your Singleness
Lust
Anger
Your past
Secret sins
Finances
Your Health
We have to be open and honest to deal with the Logs....
But I can’t do it without Christ in my life…
When I think about His love for me…
Then… I’ll see clearly to take the speck out of my brother’s eye.
