The word for overcome is nikao = victory (word we get nike from).
Christ is victor over the world's system.
Christ is victor over the world's system.
He would prove this the very next day before Pilate - “you could have no power over me except it were given to you from above.” He did not tremble in the face of human might or power.
Christ is victor over Satan’s schemes.
Christ is victor over Satan’s schemes.
In his sacrificial death on the cross Christ crushed Satan’s power.
13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
Christ is victor over death’s sentence.
Christ is victor over death’s sentence.
54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Victory Applied
Victory Applied
We enter into Christ’s victory by faith.
4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
By faith we fix our eyes upon that which is not seen and eternal.
There is nothing that can separate us from the love of Christ!
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Victory Awarded
Victory Awarded
There is coming a day when Christ himself will reward all those who walk by faith, following in His victory. He has won the battle and we get the spoils!
To Him who overcomes (Revelation 2-3):
I will give to eat of the tree of life (2:7)
Will not be hurt by the second death (2:11)
I will give of the hidden manna, a white stone, a new name (2:17)
I will give power over the nations (2:26)
I will cloth in white garments, name forever in the book of life (3:5)
I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God (3:12)
I will grant to sit with me on my throne (3:21)
There in the ground his body lay, light of the world by darkness slain. Then bursting forth in glorious day up from the grave he rose again! And as He stands in victory, sin’s curse has lost its grip on me. For I am his and he is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me. From life’s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from His hand. Till he returns or calls me home. Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.
