Can You Relate?
Today - Relationship with God
Our hope is that the word of God will transform your living as “Everyday Christians” and cause you to live in better Relationships.
[It all begins with your relationship with God…]

Created to be with God

Isaiah 43:6–7 ESV
I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”
Let the whole world know that we belong to God and that He desires to be in a relationship with Him.
[We see this as prophet Hosea recounts God’s longing for His people…]
Hosea 11:1 ESV
When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.
This ought to be very comforting that God desires to be with us.
[The relationship we are to have with Him is one akin to a Father…]
2 Corinthians 6:18 ESV
and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”
In your times of doubt and loneliness know that there is a God who is longing to be with you.
[So how do we enter into this relationship? Because one of us is physical and the other spiritual…]

Entered into by Faith

John 1:12–13 ESV
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
Our relationship with God is a matter of Faith.
[The strength of that relationship is measured in your obedience…]
Matthew 12:50 ESV
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
Those who obey have close relationship with God.
[Knowing and obeying God is called Wisdom. That type of knowing which is entered into by faith is living in the Spirit and leads you to Eternal Life…]
John 17:3 ESV
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
One prescription to loneliness is a Relationship with God. Increase and strengthen that relationship by
knowing Him
Obeying Him
walking with Him
pursuing Him
pleasing Him
turning to Him
[We are the modern children that God wants to relate to and that is done by faith…]
Galatians 3:26 ESV
for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.
The question should simply be are you in Christ?
[Our relationship is a matter of Faith and that Faith is our commitment or better yet our Covenant…]

Expressed through Covenant

Exodus 6:7 ESV
I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
God is reminding Isreal that He has been faithful in delivering on His promises.
[Even before there was an Isreal, there was a covenant relationship for man with God…]
Genesis 17:7 ESV
And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.
Are you in a Covenant relationship with God?
How did you enter into that Covenant?
Do you draw up the tenets of your relationship with God, or did He?
What did you do to ratify the covenant you offer to God?
You see our covenant is no good because we will not keep the terms of that covenant!
It is the base reason why or earthly relationships fail, we do not keep our word.
However God is different than man. He keeps His Word and He cannot lie.
[Pay close attention to Luke 22:20…]
Luke 22:20 ESV
And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
Jesus could have backed out of this deal, but He didn’t because He loves you!
He spoke His intention to repair our relationship from the begin of time.
[He as never stopped working on His end to have a relationship with us…]
Hebrews 10:15–18 ESV
And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Forgiveness is our theme for March as we continue to try to be “Everyday Christians.”
Because God wants a relationship with us He is even willing to forgive our sins, which ultimately are against Him.
Conclusion:
He created all things, created us to be in relationship with Him.
To have this relationship with God we must enter into it by Faith.
As you exist in this relationship, strengthen it by knowing God. Express your relationship through your Covenant with Him.
