A look at the first coming of Jesus Christ alongside His coming again.

Notes
Transcript
Our study of the Life of Christ will be founded upon the infallible Word of God, and more specifically, the Gospels.
The reliability of the gospels have come under the scrutiny of many skeptics throughout the history of the church.
Just know, with all their arsenal, their animosity, and vicious attacks, they have failed to prevail against the truth.
John, the apostle wrote,
“ The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:5
Skeptics speak concerning two individuals, the Jesus of the church and the Jesus of History.
In short, they do not deny that Jesus was a real man who lived in history; however, they do suggest or accuse His followers (His apostles - the church) of fabricating the Jesus of the gospels.
Within our study of the life of Christ, we will incorporate a look at the reliability of the Gospel accounts of His life and ministry.
There is a danger, however, of one’s personal perception of Jesus Christ leading them to a false belief of who He is if not based upon the truth of God’s word and divine revelation.
Matthew 11:27 NASB95
27 “All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
John 6:44 NASB95
44 “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.

The Beginning

To speak of one’s life it is logical to start or go to the beginning.
Regarding Jesus of Nazareth, we must look way beyond a manger in Bethlehem.
John 1:1–3 NASB95
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, gave birth to her creator.
God, the heavenly Father and creator sent His Son into this world to save and redeem it from sin.

The Word Made Flesh

John 1:14 NASB95
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus Christ is God

Philippians 2:5–11 NASB95
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Verse 7 - (He) emptied Himself and took the form of a bondservant, by being made in the likeness of men.
God stepped down into our world. He walked where we walk. He lived as we live.
Consider His Humility in light of His divine essence and glory.
Consider His Purpose in light of His life and death.
He humbled Himself in humility and obedience. Even to His death on the cross.
Verse 9 - For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name, which is above every name.
Jesus is no longer subject to suffering.
He is no longer on the cross. He is not still in the grave.
God has exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name, which is above every name.
Matthew 28:18 NASB95
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Philippians 2:10–11 NASB95
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Jesus is soon coming back, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
Today He baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Then He will Baptize the world with Fire!
Revelation 19:11–16 NASB95
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
This is Jesus of Nazareth
This is Jesus, the Christ
He left His Father’s side to come into this world as the suffering servant.
He will leave His Father’s side again, to come into this world again a conquering king!
During His ministry, Jesus attended the synagogue where He was handed the scroll of Isaiah from which He read,
Luke 4:17–19 NASB95
17 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, 19 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
He stopped and rolled up the scroll without reading the next line –
Isaiah 61:2 NASB95
2 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,
The time of His vengeance is soon ahead when he will punish the wicked and deliver the righteous.
Jesus is coming soon.
Do you know Him? Are you Ready?
Today if you will hear His voice, do not harden your heart.
Today, you can find mercy!
Repent and believe the Gospel!
Luke 20:18 NASB95
18 “Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.”
