Luke 22:31-34

Luke 22:31 NASB95
“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat;
Jesus is speaking to Peter here; remember Jesus changed Peter’s name from Simon, in...
Jesus reverting to Peter’s old name and repeating it is very telling about the importance of what is about to be spoken…when we were children and our parents would yell our whole name to us we knew we were in trouble. That’s not what Jesus is doing here tho, but like a child hearing his full name, Peter’s attention is directed to Jesus. He knows something big is about to be said.
So in a somber tone Jesus calls to Peter. Simon, Simon, then he gets his attention more by saying BEHOLD!!! The greek word idou which is the bible’s equivelant to LOOK! When I want someones full attention I might say to them LOOK! Jesus want’s Peter’s attention for what is about to be said....why? Because, he is going to show Peter another example of why He is God.
Jesus says SImon Simon, Behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat....
I read this and think of Job, God being challenged by Satan on Job’s Faith
Job 1:6–12 NASB95
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. The Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.” The Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil.” Then Satan answered the Lord, “Does Job fear God for nothing? “Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. “But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face.” Then the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him.” So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord.
See Satan is now challenging the faith and dedication of Peter and the rest of the disciples…The script here says that Satan has demanded, but its more of obtaining permission by asking…as we can see from what happens later, Satan was granted his request, but just like Job the disciples of Christ overcome him.
