So what does the Bible tell us about suffering? About being Broken?

Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.”

So how do we identify “BROKEN HEARTS?”

Peter tells us in 1 Peter 5:10 “In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.”

So Peter is telling us here that we will be suffering, we will have some sadness and if you read between the lines, our hearts will be broken. What’s up with this Peter says, “ a little while?” more like an eternity!

Being Broken and Suffering Teaches Us Patience.

Psalm 34:18–19 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. 19 The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.”

Now let’s watch the pattern God uses in His Holy Word. Life happens, God is with us. We give Him our problems, our suffering, our brokenhearts, our issues and He comes to the rescue each time.......

So what do we need to be doing when heartbreak is in our life? We need to learn how to be patient. God allows afflictions to come so we will learn to wait for His will and His way to be revealed…So this is God’s timing right? Not our timing......

The Lord chastens us when we become too busy with our own affairs. In the book of Deuteronomy, we read: Deuteronomy 8:5 “Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good.God wants to be first, ” He wants first place in our lives. Luke tells us: Luke 12:31 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.”

So, we need to be doing the things that God tells us to be doing.

Suffering Tests Our Faith

1 Peter 1:7 “These trials (Heart breaks) will show that your faith is genuine. It (YOUR FAITH) is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.”

Suffering tests the caliber of our faith. So how strong really is your faith? During suffering faith either gains or wanes. Do we whine around or are we in Scripture to see how God tells us to be dealing with our issues? We use it or we lose it. It grows or it goes.

We read in the book of Job: Job 2:9–10 (NLT) 9 “His wife said to him, Are you still trying to maintain your integrity? Curse God and die. 10 But Job replied, You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad? So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.”

Did you hear that church? Job’s wife told him to curse God and die. She couldn’t handle the trouble. Job said “NO WAY”, I have had good from God, my life has been blessed by God now I will accept the tough times, the broken hearted times as well!

Suffering is allowed by God in order that we may be made perfect, settled and established. Psalm 119:71 tells us: 71 “My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.”

Having our hearts broken-Trains us for Service to the Father.......Hebrews 5:8 “Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.”

Even though we are sad, hurt, maybe a little angry, We need to look for a purpose in suffering and being broken. God has a reason for what He allows. He may be preparing us for a new or different work. Remember, for His will, For His Glory.

God puts us in the position to help others after we have experienced what they are going through Paul tells us in: Galatians 6:2 “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”

Our Suffering and being Broken Testifies to Others-BOTH GOOD OR BAD.........1 Peter 4:16 “ But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name! What do those around you observe when you are broken? Are they seeing angry, revenge, profanity, lying? Or are they observing God’s Holy Grace?

If we endure suffering patiently and with God’s Grace, others will be convinced that God can help them also in time of need.

If we glorify God through our suffering, others also will want to put their confidence and faith in Him’

1 Thessalonians 1:6–8 “6 So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you. In this way, you imitated both us and the Lord. 7 As a result, you have become an example to all the believers in Greece—throughout both Macedonia and Achaia. 8 And now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere, even beyond Macedonia and Achaia, for wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God. We don’t need to tell them about it,”

We that Suffer in Christ, in this world, Triumph and rise up Through Jesus Christ.

Christ suffered for us on the cross. He paid the penalty for our sins. He was victorious. Hebrews 9:28 “so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.”

Christians who suffer may be confident that Christ shall reward them with the crown of life and they shall reign with Him.

In closing this morning, I preached last week on being God’s children. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8:17–18 “17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. 18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.

Things that happen in our lives sometimes are not fair, they are not fun, they are times we want to move on. These are the times when God is telling us to read His word, to be praying for all the things God wants us to have, Love, patience, to be caring, sympathy, grace.

AMEN
