The Remedy=Knowledge+Belief!
The Remedy=Knowledge+Belief!
I could say here are 5, 10, or 50 verses that will make your fear disappear
Memorizing verses won’t make fear go away
We need theology and specifically theology proper but having the most robust theology of God won’t make fear disappear
You also need to believe in the knowledge you have
Why a one-off sermon on fear?!
Take 2 kids with the same workload but put place one in a loving home and the other in a turbulent home or environment
Have 2 people walk across a bridge but have one be shaky and the other one sturdy with no holes
2 nascar drivers but one with a cougar in the back seat
Then add opinions to this, politics to this, and relationships become unstable, and as relational beings we become afraid, insecure, and fearful
Israel had become blind and deaf to God and when we stop looking and listening to the One person who can make fear disappear we become fearful because fear is the result of sin
Look how God responds
Knowledge of a person and action!
Knowledge of a person and action!
“This ‘but now’ does not signal any change in us but declares the grace of God.” He goes on to say, “it is not even our repentance, but only God himself.” —Ray Ortlund
Fear not is always connected to a person and reason/action
You are awesome is why you shouldn’t fear or your savings account?
When the infinite, supreme, transcendent creator who is all powerful, and good lays claim to you as His own fear starts to disappear.
Redeemed, rescued, and purchased and all of His infinite love and goodness is directed toward you
Knowing this is one thing but believing it is another
3 examples of tour guide, target, and Joey with Santa!
Do we know these truths and believe them?
Verse 1 is so important for verse 2
Knowledge and Belief in the storms
Knowledge and Belief in the storms
Not if but when you go through them
They are not from an absence of God’s redemption or love as we see in verse 1
John 16:33 so why are we so surprised
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Can be a result of doing things right
Whether discipline or a fallen world doesn’t change the truth of the God who controls it all and is guided by His love for us!
Open up about my year
The hotter the fire the purer the gold 1 Peter 1:7
so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Greater faith leads to less fear so let the furnace melt away knowing it cannot consume you
I’m confident it will produce Godly character because God promises this in Romans 5:3-4
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
Our next trial teaches us about how we have been shaped by the previous ones like Jeremiah and Daniel
Don’t let me out until you finish the work that needs to be done in me is a prayer of belief=God (knowledge and faith make fear disappear so bring it on and increase)
God quickly takes us back to Him
God quickly takes us back to Him
I am yours
“Do we belong to Him? Yes. But even more deeply, he belongs to us. A Savior has given himself to us. —Ray Ortlund
What quiets our souls and makes fear disappear
Go back and look at the promises with me
Who, What, Who or whose we are
Circumstances and lots of things will change but God cannot and neither can belonging to Him
Also God proves through Christ He doesn’t just care about the big things but the little things and the outcast
Look at what God is willing to give and why?
We are precious, and He loves us
We are precious, and He loves us
Precious should make us slow down and ask do we believe that
It makes us think of an infant
Babies aren’t stressed by covid and everything because they are solely reliant and dependent
Value, costly of great worth and significance to God
Believe this is how God sees you not based upon your life decisions but upon His Son’s in your place!
Our fears of abandonment, rejection, punishment, disappear when we know the eyes of God look at us and see us as precious and glorious
This won’t make it easy but it won’t allow these things to consume us
Church planting and going all in
The gospel frees you to be known
I am precious and honored because of love not because I do precious and honorable things—big shift!
This is driven by love and identity and not performance
We are not loved because we do childlike things but because we are children of the Father!
Love cast out all fear as John says in 1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
God’s Word is good enough but he backs it up with action
I give men for you points to His greatest action of love
Man on Fire
What do we do?
What do we do?
You must be known and let your fears be known
Pill analogy points to our need for disciplines
Word and Prayer and Community
Give people a shot to deal with your mess because you being afraid that people can’t handle it isn’t going to work long term!
Pray for a more robust knowledge of God and belief!
