What does the Bible mean by calling Jesus “The Son of God”

Colossians 1:15 NKJV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Philippians 2:5–6 NKJV
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
Why People have a hard time to understand this topic
Many handle Scripture as a doctrinal textbook.
The Bible has to be understood as a historical book.
The Biblical Story Opens with God Creating Adam and Eve.
Genesis 1:27 NKJV
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Genesis 5:3 NKJV
3 And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

Genesis 3:15 NKJV
15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Isaiah 7:14 NKJV
14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
God Calls Abraham and Sarah
Narrative centers on a succession of sons. The firstborn carries the promise.
Deuteronomy 32:6 NKJV
6 Do you thus deal with the Lord, O foolish and unwise people? Is He not your Father, who bought you? Has He not made you and established you?
Deuteronomy 32:16–18 NKJV
16 They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods; With abominations they provoked Him to anger. 17 They sacrificed to demons, not to God, To gods they did not know, To new gods, new arrivals That your fathers did not fear. 18 Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful, And have forgotten the God who fathered you.
God is our Father and Creator. He is the Father of those who are in His covenant, those who keep His commandments.
David, The Son of God.
(Psalm 2:1-7) “begotten by God” - “God’s Son” -
(Palm 89:19-29) “God’s Firstborn” - “and my covenant shall stand firm with him.”
Solomon -
1 Chronicles 22:10 NKJV
10 He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son, and I will be his Father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’
Solomon = Peace. Pointing out to Jesus, the ultimate Prince of Peace.
What does the Bible mean by Covenant?
Most fully defines who god is and how God operates.
Hosea 6:6–7 ESV
6 For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. 7 But like Adam they transgressed the covenant; there they dealt faithlessly with me.
Though the mountains be shaken And the hills be removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed, Says the LORD, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10 NIV
3 “Incline you ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. Isaiah 55:3 NIV.
Covenant - STEADFAST LOVE
UNFAILING LOVE
FAITHFUL LOVE
Isaiah 24:5–6 NKJV
5 The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants, Because they have transgressed the laws, Changed the ordinance, Broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, And those who dwell in it are desolate. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, And few men are left.
God became human in order to live out the relational terms of the covenant for us, toward us, in us.
Isaiah 42:6 NKJV
6 “I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles,
John 1:1–3 NKJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
John 1:10–14 NKJV
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
He received the death we deserved, so we could live the life He deserved.
