I Am a Witness of God's Repentence!

Intro:

Expert witness are believed to be credible witness to testify on subjects related to their profession field of expertise. Jesus’s eleven Disciples are being prepared to be expert witness in the Gospel. Jesus has been teaching them the truth of the Scriptures and the work of the Messiah.

Luke 24:36–48 NLT

36 And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. 37 But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost! 38 “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? 39 Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.” 40 As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he ate it as they watched. 44 Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. 47 It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ 48 You are witnesses of all these things.

Jesus is revealed within the Scriptures.

Luke 24:36 NLT

The two are telling how they experienced the resurrection of Christ. This is built up on how Jesus expressed to them the Scriptures point to his suffering and his resurrection.

Then Jesus appears before the eleven disciples and others with the greeting, “Peace be with you.”

Luke 24:37 NLT

37 But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost!

Jesus is revealed in Flesh

Luke 24:38–40 NLT

38 “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? 39 Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.” 40 As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet.

Jesus shows them he is alive after death.

Luke 24:39 NLT

The seeing of Jesus was not enough proof of him being flesh show he looks to demonstrate his physical body by eating.

Luke 24:41–43 NLT

41 Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he ate it as they watched.

They are still wrestling with understanding what is happening before their eyes seeing Jesus in the flesh and witnessing him eating in His resurrected body. Jesus takes them again to the Scriptures.

Jesus the Word Points to Scripture that reveals the Gospel

Luke 24:44–46 NLT

44 Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day.

Jesus has been telling them how He had to suffer as the Messiah. Jesus being the Son of God lived on earth as fully man and fully divine showing two natures willing to die on the Cross for the redemption of the world.

The Son of God, the Lamb of God, willingly presented himself as a sacrifice to God The Father.

Jesus suffered pain and agony in his body.

Jesus suffered for our glory.

Jesus shows them his hands and feet as he tells them I am Jesus in the flesh and not a ghost! I am alive and well in this new body marked from the suffering that was done. Jesus shows his scars for our transgressions.

Isaiah 53:4–6 NLT

4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! 5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. 6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

Jesus took our sin before entering into Glory! The Eleven are the Expert Witnesses.

The work of Jesus to the cross and the grave is our salvation. The Disciples are called to be the expert witness in proclaiming this truth of God to all the people and it begins in Jerusalem.

Luke 24:47–48 NLT

47 It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ 48 You are witnesses of all these things.

Witnesses to the power of repentance.

The eleven witness of Jesus and were able to testify.

WE can now testify what we know to be done in our life and witness the Lord move in our life.
