Introduction

As the bread of life, only Jesus offers the food of eternal life.
The difficulty in this passage is the allegorical/figurative language
Also, people are too fixation on temporal problems and miss the eternal issue

The Problem

How are people to partake of Jesus? verse 52
Are we to become cannibals? This was a attack against Christianity!
John 6:27 ESV
Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”
John 6:33 ESV
For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
How will all live if we are to take part of Jesus’ sacrifice? verse 57
How do we experience eternal life when all of history contains complete death?

The Need

We must understand what it means to eat his flesh and drink his blood!
We must have eternal life in order to fully live even in this life.
We must understand Jesus’ message from the Father. verse 57

The Solution

Luke 22:14ff - the institution of the Lord’s Supper which explains this concept.
Jesus is the perfect sacrifice, and we must constantly remember his death for us. verse 19
Jesus’ blood is the new covenant promised long ago and now fulfilled. verse 20
Jeremiah 31:31–34 ESV
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
First embrace salvation through Jesus.
Then, live out that salvation.
Romans 1:16–17 ESV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
