With the end of chapter 14 giving us a overview of the rest of Saul’s military and kingly career, we get yet another example of why his reign was removed from him by God in chapter 15 today.
13 saw him reject the word of God and sacrifice offerigns to Gdo without Samule the Prophet,
14 saw him try and execute his own son Jonathan - simply becasue he had eaten some honey - and despite Jonathan having just delievered them all from the Philistne army,
And now, Saul demonstrtaes his disobedience to God again in Chapter 15.
What;s interesting is that God still uses Saul to fulfil his puposes and promises - despite his disobedience to him,
What an encouragment that is to us ina world were very few world leaders know and obey the One true Lord and God!
They reject God, but God is still in control of his longterm eterneal plans. As we see here:
This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’ ”
It’s quite a judgement God is bringing upon the Amalakites.
But not without cuase:
Back in the Exodus of God’s people from their slavery in Egytp, the Amalakites were the first human threat to the people of Israel after they left.
1 Samuel—Looking for a Leader The Sound of the Words of the Lord (vv. 2, 3)
On that occasion God told Moses to write down this promise: “I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven” (Exodus 17:14).
The Amalek and his nation of people are enemies of God.
So terrible was there opposition ot God and his poeple, that 40 years later as the Isralites finally entred the pormiuse dland
Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt. When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and attacked all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God. When the Lord your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land he is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you shall blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!
