8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Review from 1:3-2:10. This is a the summary statement.
Grace - God giving you unmerited favor.
have been - perfect tense. Past action, with ongoing results.
saved - saved from what? Eternal hell.
faith - Faith then is the conduit.
Only works is if the faith is in the right object.
Even demons believe.

Workmanship
for good works - Good works never produces salvation. But Salvation always produces good works.
Walk - look back on the 2:1 and others. Metaphor for our life.
