Objective of Today.
Who do I Jesus?
This is the ultimate question. How you answer it will determin your level of allegiance to Jesus.
Is my buddy.
Important figure in your religious ideology.
The a pawn in your political agenda.
2. Who does Jesus (God) say Jesus is?
What Jesus says about himself is crucial.
And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”
Who do people generally think Jesus is?
John the Baptist: Good Teacher, Draws a crowd, calls people to a renewed action
Go out to Jordan, a new entry into the land. Re-Do. It take getting your heart right with God. Similar message.
How has what they have seen and experienced informed who they think Jesus is?
Elijah; Why? He had power! He stood up to authority. He healed people. He multiplied things.
Feeding of 5000, 4000, blind man healed...
And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.”
The question make it personal!
What do you think?
At the heart of the Kingdom is a question: Who do you believe Jesus is?
This question will ultimately determine the level of allegiance that you give to Jesus.
Christ—anointed, the Greek translation of the Hebrew word rendered “Messiah” (q.v.), the official title of our Lord, occurring five hundred and fourteen times in the New Testament. It denotes that he was anointed or consecrated to his great redemptive work as Prophet, Priest, and King of his people. Christ/ Messiah Annointed One

And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him.
I know it’s curious....
Why does he strictly charge them to tell now one about his Idenity?
And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Is Jesus being modest, casually correcting Peter… “well, I am actually just a human… A Son of Adam..
Humility, YES I am Messiah, but while I am slumping with you peasants, just call me Son of Man.
Son of Man—The title Jesus most frequently used for himself that emphasized both his divinity as the prophesied One in the Old Testament and his identification with people
Who does Jesus say he is? This happens over and over through the the gospel. Someone calls him Messiah, Son of God, and Jesus calls himself the Son of Man.
There must be some significance to Jesus referring to Himself as the Son of Man.
Why did Jesus refer to Himself as the Son of Man?
It’s a title: It’s telling people who Jesus believes himself to be.
Further than that Biblical Scholar Tim Mackie says it’s like Jesus painting a picture and everyone one of his day knowing exactly what he meant.

“I saw in the night visions,
and behold, with the clouds of heaven
there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
and was presented before him.
And to him was given dominion
and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
that shall not be destroyed.
Makie, in his research states, that people in the time of Jesus where pretty familiar with a particular book of the Jewish writing. It was a prophetic and apocalyptic writing.
Daniel
(As in Daniel in the Lions Den)
Captive in Bab…
It’s not only a portrait of Daniel and a few other Hebrew Exiles standing up against a false God and King… Daniel’s ultimate Goal is to point our allegiance to the TRUE KING, no matter the circumstances of this life!
In a dream (In A Dream: Daniels own dream) He See’sIt a Divine Court (Courtroom).
God, “THE ANCIENT OF DAY” was present.
But it wasn’t a boring court room, it was an action packed court room...
And there was any empty seat or thrown in the court room for a victorious cloud riding King.
This King has faced and defeated the monstrous kingdoms of this world and has come out victorious.
How? We’ll come back to that in a little bit…
And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
Jesus explains the Kingdom of God is apocalyptic terms:
I am:
I AM THE PROPHET.
PROCLAIMING THE KINGDOM
I AM THE PRIEST .
WHO MAKES THE SACRIFICE FOR DISLOYALTY TO THE KING
ALLEGIANCE TO FALSE THINGS (LOYALTY TO OTHER gods)
I AM THE KING.
THE ONE WHO IS VICTORIOUS OVER THE DEATH AND CAN BRING YOU HOME FROM EXILE.
“But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?” But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need?
I am Prophet, Priest, King… I fulfill all of those roles: Preach The Kingdom. Truly Holy, not only Holy, not only prepare and present the sacrifice for atonement, but I am the sacrifice of atonement.
Therefore I am also the cloud riding, end of days, seated next to God, Judge of all.
I am Judge.
“But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
Jesus’ Identity and authority in our lives is dependent on our mindset .
Peter see’s who Jesus is. But, so do Satan and the Demons...
Jesus is explicit with Peter. The Kingdom of God is different than the kingdom of man.
What was Peter missing?
What are we missing?
What are the things of God and what are the thing of Man?
What rules our life is a matter of what our mind is set on.
What rules our life is a matter of what our mind is set on.
And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
What does it mean to deny yourself?
What does it mean to take up your cross?
What does it mean to lose ones life for the sake of the gospel?
