We are having communion and we are making available down here. We're doing are still doing an open communion. So I will invite you after several songs during the worship to come up take your cup and we have two types for you take your cup and your bread return to your seat and you can partake whenever you want during the worship time at which time both the elders will be down front in the corner for prayer. So if you need any prayer after communion time, you will see Pastor Ron and Frank will be down front and they will pray with you for any needs that you might have. And we will worship the Lord together and then after that we're going to go back to if I could remember if I forget you have to throw something at me, but we're going to go back to good old fashion offerings to so you will have a plate shoved in front of your face. like the good old days No, and you could just of course. We just thank you so much that we could be here to worship you today that you could reveal yourself to us and father. That's the most important thing that can happen is sometimes not you revealing yourself, but are being ready to see you. So we want to open our hearts to you right now. We know that you're going to be here to speak to us to cleanse us to challenge us to reshape us to mold us. We know you're going to do that and we want to be ready to say yes when you do so we open our hearts to you every part whether it's the kids in the nursery and children's church are all the way up to the oldest one here. We open our hearts to you and ask you by your spirit to begin to move already in our hearts and Minds as we worship you we thank you for what you're going to do. Lord we just give you all the honor this morning and what you want to do as we partake of you God in this next segment. Largest check our hearts this morning. Check our hearts. Yes, Jesus. Pastor Steve was saying about Jesus we have to sacraments in the church water baptism and communion and water baptism is our statement to the world of Who We Are and communion is his statement to us of who he is. And so with those two sacraments, that's why there's only two and that's why they're so special is we believe that something very special happens during communion time because he literally is walking the aisles. He said when I partake of this supper with you again in the Kingdom, my folks were already in the Kingdom. He is already here. We're looking forward to that physical time, but he is already here. So whatever you need this morning just Reach Out And Touch reach out and accept cuz he is here. And this is that special time when we commune with him. So we're going to do it in the way. So Covenant of the New Testament not the old the new is often as you eat this bread and drink this cup you Proclaim or you show forth my kingdom until I come again and that's what we're doing. We're showing for through proclaiming this wonderful Kingdom that he has given us as we do this Proclaim it accepted receive it. Everything that he has four sisters bow our heads in prayer father. We just thank you so much for this blood and for this cup for this bread. And father, we know that as we partake of this right now together as your body, we're going to be partaking of your health your strength your life your healing your Victory your Miracles. We're going to be partaking of everything that the kingdom of God is and that is victory over everything. Victory over the flesh victory over the devil victory over the enemy victory over this Cosmos. This world were partaking of that Victory. So help us to be mindful of that this morning and when we do it that we partake in that way to receive from you. We thank you Father for what you're going to do as we partake together of your body and we're going to praise you cuz we ask it and believe it and receive it in Jesus name. Amen. That song says he is was and is and is to come whatever you're going through right now, whatever the situation is right now. He was before it he is there now and he will always be there after it. So you don't need to worry about a thing. He surrounds it. He surrounds every situation in our lives with whoever he is in all of his power and all of his glory he will be there and he will always be there and he always was there and he's never ever going to leave the father right now for whatever the situation might be whatever the difficulty physical spiritual emotional doesn't matter. You are revealing yourself as the one who was is and ever shall be God. And father, it's so easy for us to forget that you were before us that you're with us and you ever will be with us that we are just that Speck of time in your C. You're in control of everything. So whatever it might be we yield to you this morning to say father. I'm yours. I belong to you and everything comes from you and everything goes back to you and we can rest in that this morning we could rest in the fact that you're going to provide and take care of every situation. That's what this communion represents. That's what this time of worship represent. That's what this is all about about who you are and what you've done for us. And we can rest in that so we thank you Father for your victory for your Revelation for your power for your Authority at every stage of our lives. And we receive that glory in Jesus name hallelujah. What's right Hallelujah depressing coming of course Easter is coming and Frank and run. I am going to be chatting with you about what we want to do for Easter Sunday morning, and we don't have the luxury here in Ohio with having any type of pre Sunday service on the beach like a lot of people do Like my wife keeps reminding me out of that. That's how she got saved on the beach in Florida and had communion and baptism is at the beach and had Easter Sunday at the beach. Hallelujah, but we will be doing something different on Easter Sunday morning and next they say we're getting somewhat back to normal here and we're hearing more and more states are opening up now and releasing everything. So we're praying that that is a direction that will happen and that will free us up to hopefully do some stuff this summer, maybe some kids programs and outdoor things and things like that. So we're hoping and praying that direction. Amen. I don't think I'm a kid teens. You may be dismissed. I see you your reason the back so you may be dismissed for your time together and the rest of us open your Bibles to Ephesians or turn your Bibles on to Ephesians 5th chapter. We are also if you could hold your finger at open up and hold your finger in Romans the 7th chapter, you know long time ago when we just used Bibles it was you had to turn to it and took a little time but now course you could just pop up. On your phone when you want to get there, but we're also going to share some thoughts from Romans the 7th chapter, which is a very pivotal and important chapter in Paul's life. And I we want to talk about some things from there as well, but will start with Ephesians the 5th chapter and in a bit will head to the 7th chapter of Romans and we are down in Florida got stuck here in verses 15 and on and so we'll just read it again. I'm actually going to still sort of be stuck in verses 15 and 16 and 17, but she then first 15 that you walk circumspectly not as fool's but as wise Redeeming the time because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise but understand what the will of the Lord is we talked about this last week and do not be drunk with wine in which is dissipation, but be filled with the spirit and then he tells us further how we are to react and ourselves and others verse 19 speaking to one another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs making Mela. Your heart to the Lord giving thanks always for all things to God the father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ submitting to one another in the fear of the Lord. And of course, he says verse 21 because he's going to be launching into verses 22 through 33. And so he has to begin by informing all of us before he talks about wives and husbands that all of us need to be submitting to one another and I mentioned before to that perhaps the reason I'm staying so long in these vs. Is because I'm hoping Jesus comes back before we get to verse 22, but so far he is not and and we'll have to talk about what we want. We want to talk about again responding to God's work in us how we respond to how he works inside of us and we spoke last week about living in the darkness in about not just living in the darkness with Paul says you were Darkness itself and we talked about how that affects our minds the way we think the actions we perform and how it causes us to fear. And how fear can then of course destroy our lives and many times we get frustrated or upset with people that don't know the Lord of because of what they do, but we have to remember that we are wrestling not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness and that were fighting not against people but we're fighting against folks whose minds are dark just like our minds used to be at one time and then and so we're fighting against that type of Darkness. But thankfully we have been released from the darkness verse 14. We've been awakened Weaver risen from the dead and we are now walking in Christ like that life has remove the darkness from us and because we're walking in light Paul says you are then able to walk circumspectly redeem the time and become wise now we're going to look quickly at those three things today, but then I want to just go out on a couple of ways that we do it we're going to concentrate more in the lifestyle that we need to cultivate those three things in our lives. So first, let's look at Are the very first one he says see that you walk circumspectly. Remember all several weeks ago. We define this word. The Greek word is acrobatics from which we get acrobat and I mention Tiny Tim's I won't mention Tiny Tim again tiptoeing through the toilet and The younger generation doesn't know who Tiny Tim was there Nina look it up on her phone and after church. She was walking by and she said I just looked up Tiny Tim. That's creepy.

He was a creep of our day right now. They have the wrong creeps. We had our creeps they have their own priest. But but literally it does mean that Paul is saying that you need to walk like an acrobat and sometimes when you're walking it's on a tightrope, right? If you ever been there you make one wrong step and you're off that rope other times. It's it's like we see acrobatics and gymnastics. You're you're you're plotting and moving in certain ways in certain situations. It isn't is a difficult thing. We want to walk in wisdom and to walk like that have to walk circumspectly is a very thought intentional we're going to talk about this in a moment a very thought driven kind of thing it it takes energy to walk carefully, you're watching your surroundings. You're you're you're right. I was watching out of the guys, of course as they were doing these steps and everything and I was watching them in and you know that the line right measure twice cut once it's a careful thing or like I've always said the password for me measure once cut three times and then go back to Lowe's and get more would try it again.
But you know you if you watch a carpenter in the end, they measure it precisely precisely make sure before the cut is made and that's what it is to walk circumspectly or or it's like when you have an accident how many you had an accident in a car you hit something or another car or a post or something like that? And you tell somebody in the first thing they'll say to you is what didn't you see the car?
I always love this I would I was going to say you had thankfully. I don't have that much but I saw the car and you cannot imagine the geometric calculations that it took for me to precisely time the meeting of my right front fender with their rear left Fender. I had to figure vectors and speed forces. I had to figure tangent and cosine all in my head so I can meet right at that point. Of course. I didn't see it cuz I wasn't paying attention. That's how an accident happens right? For those of you that are are truck drivers. You know, what truck drivers are like you don't have a rear view mirror. So you're constantly looking at your side mirrors. You don't look any other way. I just saw Dave walk in right to be a truck driver. You're constantly look in your side mirrors. I remember I have a private pilot's license and I remember when in training and in in the testing and all that kind of stuff that they've constantly scan the skies and the skies special getting your scan the skies you think that's a big sky, but boy those Lear Jets or fast aren't they? They are all going to the same airport. You got to watch scan the sky scan. This guy constantly look honestly look and that's what it means to walk circumspectly constantly scanning not necessarily hyper analyzing but just scanning and watching surroundings watching attitudes watching thought processes constantly scanning and that's how we walk circumspectly. He said also you have to do that, too. Redeem the time I love this word redeem. Remember we talked a long time ago about the Agora which was the marketplace which where was the place that people would go to court by their food, but they would also sacrifice to the God is there and things like that and the Agora Agora literally means in Greek to buy back. When when we when we are Redeeming the time we are buying time back from making mistakes. When we sin we lose time. We lose efficiency. We lose and waste resources. How many know that that one of the best things you could do is save time when you need it. When you waste time, you never get it back and we need to redeem the time Paul said because it's so evil around us. There's constant evil everywhere. So Paul said you've got to redeem you got to buy back. We have a phrase in the English language that just used it pay attention. Hey, that means you're buying it. You're buying when you're paying attention that phrase means you are literally buying efficiency. You're buying safety. You're buying protection. You're buying something. And if you aren't paying attention you are losing it and you are wasting time. We are all the time with your all-time self buying and paying for that. So he says you've got to constantly redeem the time wherever you're walking whatever you doing redeem it redeem it redeem. It make it back by that. He says is becoming wise become wise and we've talked about this before with wisdom. We're not talking about knowledge were talking about wisdom here and there are two different things intelligence is not wisdom. Do you know that I've shared this before I think but it Bears repeating that as a nation we are becoming more intelligent because of cell phones and computers are becoming more intelligent, but we are becoming less cognitive. And that's a scary thing because it was cognition that put man on the moon. It was cognitive ability that built skyscrapers with slide rules and pencils and papers. It was it was cognitive ability that came up with discoveries like polio vaccines and things like that cognevich, but we're becoming less cognitive and give an example of it of it real quickly the way that we process information if I want to say, when did Jack Benny die well now I can just go to my phone. When did Jack Benny die for whatever reason I would want to know Jack Benny's death-day time and again some of your saying
When was Jack Benny? When did Jack Benny die well now I just go. When did Jack Benny die Jack Benny died in 1972 prop it up done. Well before we had cell phones and computers if I had to find out when Jack Benny. What would I have to do? I have to go to the library out of to call that Uncle of mine that new Adam to call somebody out of to talk to a lot of people I'd have to research how to do all sorts of things. I remember when I was in school when I was in college years and years ago. Oh my Lord 40 years ago. When we had to write a term paper fill when we had to write a term paper, remember, all those of you were my age how you had to do it in high school and college you had to go to you had to write and you had to go to the library you had to find the topic is you're looking for means you have to go through card catalogues and you had to do this.
Go to the car and then you had to have index cards. Right and you had to take the topic and you had to write down. Okay be 9526. That's Aisle 24 you had to have the whole list of cars with you right you go down the aisle B-29 64966 turning the wheels are turning your brain is functioning you're discovering thing. Then you had together then you had to take the book home. And you know, what you had to do. If you couldn't do this, could you find
search not doing anything you had to open to the contents you had to start. Scanning through the book. Then when you found the quote that you wanted you had to take an index card out and you had to write it down by hand. There was no cell phone or computer how to write it down. But I'm really making a really making this point silly, but you understand. What's Happening Here had to write it. Then you had to collect all your cards and had to go back to your dorm room and you had to sit down in front of a typewriter.
Yes for some people.
And then you had to correct your mistakes and then you literally had to copy and paste you had to cut off bottoms of pages and realign them. You had to actually wipe them out and type over them. Or use carbon paper and then you would have to cut your pages in half and in sections and tape them back together and photocopy them. It was a process now you just go to Google.
He just go to Google and you just and you speak it in it comes up you highlight it cut it copy it bibliography. Boom There It Is We are Becoming incredibly intelligent, but we are not cognitive anymore to become wise means that you are becoming cognitive your if your cognitive the wheels are turning in the spirit realm becoming wise you learn the processes and the principles in in Isaiah. The first chapter. God said come let us reason together the word their literal is argue debate. I like what one translation says come sit down and let's argue this thing out. Did you ever argue with God? Sometimes it's fine. Isn't it? It literally means to contend to advance to explain to take time to process this thing to shut everything out to get to the root of the issue. If we are going to become wise if we're going to get to know God it's Not going to happen by saying who's God.
It comes by taking this and sweating over it and letting it stick to your arms in the summertime and let the pages stick to your fingers if your fingers are cold in the winter time. It comes to cognitive learning and understanding to our goal is to be like an acrobat out there to buy back time in the midst of evil and a settled down into a wisdom building conversation with god. And I'm telling you what I'm still working on it. And I know my mom is still working on it cuz she tells me I know those are even older than my mother are still working on it. We're still working on it and that brings us to our next couple points and then I'll close and that is this tall order of walking circumspectly of of becoming wise of doing those things in our lives of buying back evil. It's a tall order there two things that will help us and I believe the first thing is yielding to the right things. I'm taking this from last week. We talked about Paul how Paul inserts alcohol and he says don't yield yourself to the wrong thing yield yourself to the right thing the Holy Spirit and traces as you yield the Holy Spirit through the word is going to begin to change your mind and to change the way things function in your brain and cognitive you're going to begin to understand more things of the Holy Spirit my wife and I were watching a program the other day and this shows you where our life is come. We are watching a program on thinking, you know, Actually, we're really show you where this is come or Alive come the other day. We wanted to do something really fun and exciting. So we drove over to near Akron and went to a Meijer.
Cuz our new one is coming. So we wanted to see what a Myers was like who went to Meijer and then and then we went really big time and we went to the mall Mart across the street. Yeah, and then we went to Panera's and have lunch and then came home.
No, we didn't compare prices, but Myers was pretty good. It was pretty good. I must say but I know some of you can't handle that type of Lifestyle. That's pretty best pretzel Italia that's on the edge that's living on the edge. We don't know what it's about to fall into but Waits living on the edge, but but we are listening to this program and end and this psychologist was talking about a new format of understanding things that was called system 1 and system 2 Thinking system 1 and system 2 Thinking system one is fast automatic happens unconsciously and requires minimal effort system 2 Thinking is slower requires effort and happens consciously and deliberately system one includes innate skill things, like receiving the world around us recognizing objects orientation of things avoiding losses fear spiders things like that fear of snakes. These are these are subconscious fasting system to allocate attention to effortful meme mental activities complex situations often associated with a subjective experience agency choice. Concentration is the only one that can make deliberate choices between options system one does not have the capability. It just automatically accepts now I submit to you that system one walk system one is Walking In the Flesh and system to is walking in the spirit. System one in the flesh is automatic. My flesh is automatic folks. It is automatic. I don't have to think how to do it. I don't have to plan to get angry. I don't have to plan to get worried. I don't have to think about getting frustrated. I don't have to do any of those things. It just happens automatically the boys when it comes to system 2 Thinking by walking in the spirit and doing what this word says. Oh my it's deliberate. It's conscious. It takes a lot of work. It makes me sweat and it makes me really look at myself and wonder who I am. Wow, no, I told him to turn around. Here's an example of it in a guy that we pretty much think had it all together, but he says in verse 13. It's very interesting has been what is good become Destiny certainly not but sin that it might appear soon was producing death in me through what is good so that sin through the commandant might become exceedingly sinful for we know that the Y spiritual but I'm carnal sold under sin for what I am doing. I don't understand for what I will to do. I do not practice that but what I hate that I do. Anybody been there? Other than Debbie down front.

I thank God through Jesus Christ Our Lord. So then with the mind I serve the law of God, but with the Flash I serve the law of sin. Now over the years in church history, there were many that took this and they misconstrued it and they because Paul is very in-depth in his thinking and they misunderstood what he was saying and they said all the sea Paul says you can just let your flesh do whatever it wants. No because Paul later said should I continue to send the grace would abound God forbid know what he was saying was deep down inside of this mess call David. Roselli. There is still a kernel of Flesh that is not going to go away until Jesus comes back or he takes me to be with himself and there's that law that is still in there the law of the sin nature that is still there and it's still striving against me and the spirit is still fighting the Flesh and the journey that we are on is the striving to control system 1 and healed the system to its seen the Walk of the flesh knowing it and then subjecting that flesh to the light of the word. And it is a journey of a lifetime. Paul says. It's the law that he doesn't have that long anymore Hallelujah. He's in heaven. That law has been set free from him cuz he doesn't have this stinking flesh anymore. And someday it will happen to us. But until that time we will always be having a choice between system 1 and system 2 the immediate action of the flesh or the yielding to the Holy Spirit and I'm telling you right now if it is a battle that even our brother the Apostle Paul fought after he came back from the third heaven after he saw things that could not be uttered. He still said I'm still fighting the same flash battle concert. Does that make you feel good? Will it be a bummer Paul said you know what? I overcame all this and I don't I'm not bothered by that flesh anymore Sunday you can too if you're getting Like Me Now doesn't work that way. All of us are I'm at Journey. It's a journey of yielding were yielding were yielding and a second thing is and I'll close with this. It's the sharpening of our spiritual senses the first clue back in the fusion. Paul says then that you walk circumspectly another words look open your eyes and see recognize where you're at and then begin to sharpen your spiritual senses Beauty say, how do I sharpen my spiritual senses? It's the same old. What's that old saying the way that you get experience as good a job the way that you get a job is get experience that same cycle as the same is true. Here. Here is a 5th chapter of the writer says but solid food belongs to those who are full age. That is those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil those who buy reasons a reason I love you say use and then having their senses everybody stayed together exercise.
Exercising our reason which come from scripture to discern good and evil when I can start Discerning good and evil around me then guess what I can start to discern good and evil in me when I can start to see ew, that's not what the word says. Then I can look at myself and go that's not what the word says. I can begin to just run inside me and then all the sudden my spiritual senses become sharper and sharper and sharper and all the sudden. I'm feeling the Holy Spirit to divide us under joint and Marrow thought intention spirit and soul inside of me and I'm beginning to have the sharpened senses. You know, what the word here is literally in the in the Greek discernment here at Discerning with exercise. It literally is decreasing sword eye creases and if I hate to say this, but it formally meant I was a medical term to watch the change in secretions. Sorry about that. We then changed it from Daya creases to diagnosis. So when you go to the doctor and he gives you a diagnosis gnosis his knowledge and he is saying this is what's happening inside of you. So it's a diagnosis that occurs. So the writer is saying if you're going to sharpen your senses, you're going to watch I apologize again. You're going to watch the secretions of sin in your life. How many no the secretions are not fast are they they're slow. They're slow and hidden and Tiny and all the sudden the secretion becomes a blob that takes you over and you don't know where it came from watch watch watch. He says exercise your use of your knowledge and your wisdom of scripture and then all the sudden you'll see sharpening senses. Now all of this again, I will say everything I just mentioned is a journey of a Life Time. It's learning to yield. It's learning to exercise. Do you know do you know how many athletes get sick and die after they get the gold medal or after they win the Superbowl and it's mostly because they died in their fifties and sixties and a lot of times it's because they stop exercising at the level they were at to get the gold medal and their body begins to collapse cuz they're not you can't maintain that level of exercise. You can't get up at 4 and 3:30 and 4 every morning and run 20 miles. You can't do that when you're 40, + 50 + 60 to all the sudden their body, which was so finely tuned begins to die because they cannot exercise the way they used to the bad news for us is our gold medal is still a long ways off. It's reserved for us in the heavens. And we're marching toward at the good news. Is that every day? We get closer we get stronger. We win more battles every day the past grows dimmer. The flesh grows weaker. The Mind becomes more christ-like. If we see Victory after Victory after Victory and then every time we fail we learn from our failure, we learn from our mistakes we stand up again and we start sharpening ourselves one more time. We find out how The Blob got there and how to get the blob out of there and we keep yielding and we keep sharpening until Jesus comes back.
I wish I could tell you that you could yield and sharpen. For the next 32 weeks and then it's done. I wish I could tell you that all I know this is just a 9-week program. I wish I could just tell you that this is a this is a 2 semester program at the end of the second semester. It'll all be done.
lifetime of learning
But you know what that also says to me that also says that I'm glad we have a savior that set it up this way and he knows he's touched by the feeling of our infirmities and he knows I've got all the time in the world. I'll keep working with you until it's done. I will bring it to completion when I come back. And until that time just keep working with me. Just keep saying yes, just keep yielding. Just keep saying you know what? I see it. I see it again Lord, I see it again. Okay, I'm sorry. I confess. I see it again, and I'm going to learn to yield more and when we do that He will bring it to pass in his time. All he wants is healed. He just wants us to walk circumspectly to yield and to sharpen our senses. That's just our heads father. I thank you. I thank you for a brother Paul who was not a condemned ettore harsh individual. He like Peter and and all the others they lived it. They suffered it with us. And I'm so glad that you had them penned these words to help us see and understand and walk accordingly and above all I am so grateful that we have a high priest. It's touched by the feeling of our infirmities. He knows all of our weaknesses. He knows all of our frailties. He knows that our flesh will immediately system one choose that thing he knows how hard it is. He's the one that suffered and bled drops of Tears in in the garden. He bled and suffered in agony. Just do that prayer. Because he was fighting away the system one flesh and he was clinging to the system one Spirit system to Spirit to say I'm Healed and your father not my will but yours be done. So give us the strength to join this wonderful multitude of Believers that have gone through the years and I've walked victoriously to the very end help us to join that great cloud of witnesses that has overcome and we will overcome with them. Aren't you glad that he is giving us the option of two least half system 2 thinking that we don't have to be drawn away anymore by the immediate activities of flesh, but I can make a choice this morning to walk in the fullness of the spirit.
