Love Is. . .
Love Is. . .
Proposition: This text shows us how Love manifests four distinct qualities that are visible in the relationships mature Christians.
Aim: We will display love consistently
Love is Benevolent
7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Define bears all - it means to cover. It means to suppress.
When the Christian is absorbed with a heart filled with love he will cover the offenses of others. He will suppress those flaws.
- No this is not to say that he condones sin and wrongdoing.
- He corrects and he condemns the sin but he suppresses it. He covers it.
- In other words, Love does not scandalize and seek moments to destroy persons who have sinned.
With the Corinthians they were waiting to expose somebody.
Application: Do not be malicious. Do not be a gossip. Do not be vicious towards those who fall. Be benevolent.
Love Displays Trust
7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Define Believe- to be true and therefore worthy of one’s trust
love is not suspicious it believes the best. It looks for the best in others.
Love Is Optimistic
7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Define Hope- to look forward to something, with implication of confidence and expectation.
As long as the grace of God is operative in the person, you never give up. The hope we have is not necessarily in the person but in the Lord. As long as the grace of God is operative, human failure is never final.
Love Never Quits
7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
define endures- it is a military term. its roots are in the military. It sustains . . . the idea is endure means to sustain
