9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.

Resist the devil and he will flee from you… James 4:7

It literally means that not give into what he says.

It literally suggests that you ought to remain hard/solid...

In order to become firm, it has to go through some hot water.

To add a word of encouragement to the to all us, Peter lets us know that all of us are having to fight the same fight.

You are not being singled out. You are not being picked on. But all of us, will have to deal with the devil in our very own way at some point.

But knowing that you have somebody along with you that’s fighting with you, it should strengthen your resolve to accept the fight.

It’s like when you were kids, and the neighborhood bully or somebody who was older than you started picking on you. By yourself, you know you couldn’t beat him/her, so you never said anything
