Summary:

JTB serves as a transitional figure, connecting the OT with the NT, but also providing a point of transition, readying the world for the new covenant and the expansion of God’s people through the gospel t the ends of the earth.

And here comes this strange guy, dressed in Elijah’s clothing, calling folks into the wilderness to do business with God. He didn’t use fancy preaching or powerpoint outlines. It doesn’t seem like he preached a sermon series, nor did he practice F.A.I.T.H. Sunday school or Three Circles evangelism. The picture we get makes us wonder if he even practiced normal hygiene. That’d have been enough to scare away many people today. It makes me think that maybe people simply committed to God and trusting in His Holy Spirit can have a huge impact on the world still.

And His message was all Jesus. I’m preparing the way for Him, I’m not worthy of Him, and His ministry is much more significant than mine. It was one great big deflection of significance. Oh that we could all live life like Jesus was the greatest thing that ever happened to us.

Call to Action:

You have an opportunity wherever God places you to be a witness. Take it. Begin by praying fervently for individuals in your life and look for opportunities to serve them.

Ask yourself: is this life about me or serving others and loving God.

Finally, look for opportunities to make much of Jesus in your life.
