As cold waters to a thirsty soul,
So is good news from a far country.
Introduction:
We are all alike in that we like to receive “good-news”.
The Writer of Proverbs speaks of good news from a far country; he tells us that this good news is like a drink of cold water to a thirsty soul.
The “Gospel” is good news to man.
It is the news of what God has done for us sinners. Especially is this true, when we see our true condition before a Holy God.
THE GOOD NEWS
THE GOOD NEWS
WHAT GOD’S WORD DECLARES ABOUT US ALL.
A. We are sinners.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
B. That we have already been proven guilty.
Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
C. That we are under condemnation.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
THE GOOD NEWS THAT GOD DECLARES TO US—WE DON’T HAVE TO GO TO HELL BECAUSE:
A. God sent His only Begotten Son into the World.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
B. Christ took our sin upon Himself. “He was made sin for us.”
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
C. Christ died for our sins.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
This is good news to the condemned sinner. Our sins are all paid for by the death of Christ.
D. Christ arose from the dead the third day.
He is a living Saviour, able to save all that will come.
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Note:
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
THIS GOOD NEWS FROM GOD WILL DO YOU NO GOOD UNLESS YOU:
A. Acknowledge you are a sinner worthy of eternal death.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
B. Repent (turn from) your sin unto Christ, receiving Him as Saviour and Lord.
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
