There is a phrase in this chapter that in present at least 4 times: “Be strong and courageous.”
This phrase is mentioned first in Deuteronomy 31:6 by Moses and he is appointing Joshua to take over. It is mentioned in Deuteronomy 31:7 and 23 as well.
Then it is occurs in Joshua 1:6-9 three times spoken as the words of the Lord.
It is mentioned in 1 Chronicles 28:20 where David charges Solomon with building the Temple.
Then the officers of the people use those words in Joshua 1:18 to relay back to Joshua that they are on board and ready to respond.
What I want you to notice is this verse that is in the middle of Joshua 1. In my mind, it is the verse that make the “be strong and courageous” verses possible.
