Like I just said, if this is your first time, im stoked youre here! we have been going through a sermon series called Take A Hike and we are going through 9 things Jesus layes out for us in the Gospels in a section called the Sermon on the Mount, hence the title Take a Hike! Last week we heard from Landon where he spoke about the Law we see in scripture and what being rightous means. Today we will be looking at something all of use have gone through at some point in our life and that we can see throughout scripture as a consistent topic that is brought up. This topic for today is anger, and this is something that I have personally had to deal with a lot throughout my life. And when I think of anger, one phrase comes to mind and that is, “Seeing Red”. I just picture that classic image of the man holding the red cape in front of the bull and the bull charging at is because it is just so angry. Sometimes we can find ourselves doing this, maybe not to the extent as a raging bull but we may find ourselves becoming so angry we dont care about the consiqueces of our actions. We act first and ask for forgiveness later, but sometimes, or most times, it isnt as easy as that.
Today we will be looking at Matthew 5:21-26. So if you dont have your bible yet, i encourage you to take a moment, pause this video then come back so you can follow along. Alright, just to start, if you have your bible you can probably see that the heading above this section isnt anger but instead its murder, you mught think im losing it, but trust me im not. If you really look at murder, it really boils down to anger. So instead of speaking about murder, we thought it would be more fitting to speak about anger in general. Lets start reading verse 21 together,

“You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, e and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’

What I really like what Jesus did here is he was very intentional about speaking in a way that would make sense to people. How he did that here was by starting this section with acknowledging the ancient law that has been around for thousands of years previously. By doing this, he is showing people that he is not just speaking about this blindly but is educated in the law.
