Hannah praises God for who He is and what He has done. In contrast to Hannah's faithfulness, we learn about Eli and his sons and their unfaithfulness to serve God.

God is the Judge 1 Samuel 2:4-10 "The bows of the mighty men are broken, And those who stumbled are girded with strength. 5 Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, And the hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, And she who has many children has become feeble. 6 "The LORD kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up. 7 The LORD makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up. 8 He raises the poor from the dust And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes And make them inherit the throne of glory. "For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, And He has set the world upon them. 9 He will guard the feet of His saints, But the wicked shall be silent in darkness. "For by strength no man shall prevail. 10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken in pieces; From heaven He will thunder against them. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth. "He will give strength to His king, And exalt the horn of His anointed." II. Hannah's Prayer Reflects God's Actions A. God Is Able to Change People's Situation 1. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there. 15 Also, before they burned the fat, the priest's servant would come and say to the man who sacrificed, "Give meat for roasting to the priest, for he will not take boiled meat from you, but raw." 16 And if the man said to him, "They should really burn the fat first; then you may take as much as your heart desires," he would then answer him, "No, but you must give it now; and if not, I will take it by force." 17 Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for men abhorred the offering of the LORD. Leviticus 7:30-32 'His own hands shall bring the offerings made by fire to the LORD. The fat with the breast he shall bring, that the breast may be waved as a wave offering before the LORD. 31 'And the priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast shall be Aaron's and his sons'. 32 'Also the right thigh you shall give to the priest as a heave offering from the sacrifices of your peace offerings. Leviticus 10:14-15 "The breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering you shall eat in a clean place, you, your sons, and your daughters with you; for they are your due and your sons' due, which are given from the sacrifices of peace offerings of the children of Israel. 15 "The thigh of the heave offering and the breast of the wave offering they shall bring with the offerings of fat made by fire, to offer as a wave offering before the LORD. And it shall be yours and your sons' with you, by a statute forever, as the LORD has commanded." Deuteronomy 18:3-4 " And this shall be the priest's due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is bull or sheep: they shall give to the priest the shoulder, the cheeks, and the stomach. 4 "The firstfruits of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you shall give him. 1 Samuel 2:18-21 But Samuel ministered V. You make the LORD's people transgress. 25 "If one man sins against another, God will judge him. But if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?" Nevertheless they did not heed the voice of their father, because the LORD desired to kill them. 26 And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favor both with the LORD and men. B. ' " 3. Will Beg for a Priestly Position Takeaways: • God deserves our praise and worship in every situation in our life, but certainly when we see His blessing, we should give Him the glory. • God honors our faithfulness. While we may not see physical blessing like Hannah did, certainly God will bless us when we serve Him. • Likewise, God judges those who are unfaithful to Him. While we will not loose our salvation, God may judge us with difficulty in life and certainly with loss of reward in heaven because of our sin. • Sin is serious. God hates sin. We need to see sin as God sees it and make our choices understanding how God sees our sin.
