Introduction

Luke 22:14-20

Luke 22:14–20 CSB
When the hour came, he reclined at the table, and the apostles with him. Then he said to them, “I have fervently desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks, he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. For I tell you, from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way he also took the cup after supper and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

Passover

It's Passover there in Jerusalem. Passover still celebrated, this year it will be March 27th - April 4th.
Exodus 12:14–17 CSB
“This day is to be a memorial for you, and you must celebrate it as a festival to the Lord. You are to celebrate it throughout your generations as a permanent statute. You must eat unleavened bread for seven days. On the first day you must remove yeast from your houses. Whoever eats what is leavened from the first day through the seventh day must be cut off from Israel. You are to hold a sacred assembly on the first day and another sacred assembly on the seventh day. No work may be done on those days except for preparing what people need to eat—you may do only that. “You are to observe the Festival of Unleavened Bread because on this very day I brought your military divisions out of the land of Egypt. You must observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent statute.
This is a remembrance from the Exodus from Egypt. The most important event in the Old Testament. When you think about things in the Bible and you think important, One of the if not THE first thing you could think of is JESUS. And you would be right. But in the Old Testament and for the Jews it is the Exodus from Egypt.
This festival last for about 8 days. As there are multiple events going on here.
Pesach is the day in which it is remembered in which the blood of the lamb was slain and put upon the door post and the spirit of the lord Passed over the Israelites and did not Kill the first born And Then the People of God were force away from their slavery and left so quickly that they bread had no time to rise. And gave birth to the feast of unleavened bread. And into that the festival of booths where the people remember living in wilderness.
See the book of Exodus
Put it all together and you have an 8 day festival that is one of the most commonly observed Jewish Holidays even by non-observant Jews
During this time They avoid yeast.

Intimacy

This is a celebration of God's salvation. And Jesus chooses to celebrate with Fellowship. Even though He knows that he is facing betrayal and death. Yet his last desires are of fellowship. Covid should give us a better understanding of this desire. The thing he wants to do most before all that is eat and fellowship with his disciple more than just eat and fellowship he wants to celebrate God's salvation. He knows that they don't understand what is going on. He knows that one will betray him. Others brought swords thinking Jesus is going to lead another Maccabaeus revolt even though He has told them many times that isn't happening.
Intimacy Is found in god's salvation celebrated in Unity. Eating together. In Lords supper or just sitting and eating together. Statistics show that families that eat together have a higher rate of staying together. Unity in Gods salvation eternal and in life just as Jesus Joined together in fellowship and love with his disciples
So that Jesus expresses the need for this behavior in that Jesus chose this to do before he dies.
We must not be afraid to join in communion with one anther. In Christ Love as we celebrate Gods salvation every time we are together. Not just in Lords supper but all the time. When ever we break bread and drink, God is there and if we believe in him he comes and dines with us. And we with him.
What a wonderful and glorious thing being so close the creator of all things. Through his grace and his salvation.
As we come upon the holiday season and as spring starts to appear as snow melts away. Let us celebrate in the Gift that God has given to us
