1 John 5:20 NKJV
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

Our Confession

We believe that Jesus Christ is God revealed in the flesh, the One God who created all things, redeemed His fallen creation, and will return to rule over all.

Q1 - Why do we believe that Jesus Christ is God?

We believe it because the bible says so.
So, how does the bible reveal this truth?
Answer no. 1 - He was the Logos from the beginning
John 1:14–17 NKJV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ” 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
the Word became flesh
His name was called Jesus Christ
Note - Jesus claimed His “pre-incarnate” glory
John 17:5 NKJV
5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
pre-incarnate - before becoming flesh or human
before the world was
Who was the Logos? - God Himself
John 1:1 NKJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
the Logos was with God in the beginning - came into existence
the Logos was God - no less
John 1:2 NKJV
2 He was in the beginning with God.
establishes the existence of the Word in the beginning
the Logos was the beginning of God’s activities in relation to His creation
John 1:3 NKJV
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
He was the means of creation
Who was the Logos? - the Son of God
Hebrews 1:1–2 NKJV
1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
God made the worlds “through the Son” (affirms John 1.3)
Son of God - because He came forth from God
Hebrews 1:5 NKJV
5 For to which of the angels did He ever say: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”? And again: “I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son”?
begotten - to bring forth
not created,
as Son of God, the Logos, was the “firstborn” over all creation
Colossians 1:15b NKJV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Revelation 3:14c NKJV
14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God:
Who was the Logos? - the “unique” Son of God
John 1:14 NKJV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
“became” - the word did not create a flesh, the word became flesh
“only begotten” - Grk. MONOGENES, unique one; very different and without equal
not the right translation - because we are also begotten of God
better - the Unique One (of the Father)
John 1:18 NKJV
18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
Note - other translations
John 1:18 NASB95
18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.
John 1:18 ESV
18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
John 1:18 NIV
18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
John 1:18 NLT
18 No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.
the Son of God, the Word/Logos, is unique - there is nothing and no one else like Him
the Son of God, the Logos, is God Himself
Jesus is the Word/Logos of God!
Revelation 19:13 NKJV
13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
Answer no. 2 - He is the mystery of God revealed in the flesh
Jesus Christ is the “mystery of God”
Colossians 2:2c NKJV
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
Note - the last part, “both of the Father and of Christ”
margin says, omit “both of the Father and of”
most translations, only “Christ”
Colossians 2:2 NASB95
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself,
Colossians 2:2 ESV
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ,
Colossians 2:2 NIV
2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
Jesus Christ “reveals” the Father
Matthew 11:27 NKJV
27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
John 1:18 NKJV
18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
the Son is the express image of the person of God
Hebrews 1:3 NKJV
3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
“express image” - Grk. CHARAKTER, the exact imprint, stamp
person - Grk. HYPOSTASIS, substance; essence
Colossians 2:9 NKJV
9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
every act, every word, of the Son of God
is a reflection of the invisible Spirit God!

Jesus Christ is the visible appearance of the invisible Spirit God.
John 14:8–9 NKJV
8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
John 12:44–45 NKJV
