Abide in Him
1 John 2:19–27 NKJV
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life. 26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
1 John 2:19 is really discussing the fellowsip of the church. Not everyone who is a part of the assembly is a member of of the family of God.
There are two aspects to the church: Universdal family of God, and local assembly.
Weirsbe makes the point here that a person can belong to a local churches activities and and not be a part of the true spiritual body of Christ. One of the evidences of a true christian is a desire to be with the people of God (1 John 3:14)
When we are indwelt by the same divine nature, we are indwelt by the same Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:14–16 NKJV
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
This goes back to true fellowship as seen in 1 John 1.
The counterfiet christian m,entioned in chapter 2 did not remain in the fellowship.
We all must answer the question “Who is Jesus Christ?” Who do I say that I am?
George Whitfield-
speaking to man about hsi soul.
“What do you beleive sir?”
“I beleive what my church bvelieves”
“Well, what does your church beleive?”
“They beleive what I believe. “
The only response Whitfield really got was, “We believe the same thing!”
A man is saved by trusting Jesus Christ bearing witness to his faith
Romans 10:9–10 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Lets not forget that even false teachers will say that they worship the “Father”.
We must realize that by denying Christ we deny the Father.
John 10:30 NKJV
30 I and My Father are one.”
1 John 2:24 NKJV
24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
He writes these because there are people in this world who will try to deceive us. 9False teachers at this time John wrote this text.
Anointing: Our Helper
John 14:16 NKJV
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
John 16:13 NKJV
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
Jeremiah 31:33 NKJV
33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
1 Corinthians 2:12 NKJV
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
1 Thessalonians 4:9 NKJV
9 But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;
Again, little children, abide in Him. Stay away from the world.
Isn’t having confidence a wonderul thing?
Lets look at 1 John 2:28
Ephesians 3:12 NKJV
12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.
John 7:18 NKJV
18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.
1 John 3:7–10 NKJV
7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.
This idea of practicing the truth is back.
Inching closer to Easter we now have a full context of expected lifestyle, commandments, discernment, and invitation. Much room to grow!
