Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
English Standard Version Chapter 13
Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses
The more I read the Bible, the more I find freedom was the very heart of the message of the Bible
I forefathers recognized this
Though today we are losing much of that freedom
There is a lot of things today that hold us in bondage
Sins of the past
False guilt
We have been put down much of our life
We feel we are not good enough
Are We Free or Not?
Are We Free or Not?
Paul was one of the freest men in the world
He goes on a missionary journey and speaks to the Jews first.
They thought they were already free and didn’t need a savior
Paul explained how God had set the people free in Egypt but the people rebelled against God and He sent his own Son whom the Jews crucified.
The Jews trusted in their own righteousness
The Gentiles gladly accepted this message of freedom
Have we found the freedom to become everything God wants us to be
Often we are afraid to be and to express our true self.
I have seen one woman work her head off at church to try to become good enough and would always complain about everyone else, she was not free
I have seen someone full of false guilt because the preacher kept laying on a guilt trip on her for things she was not responsible for
I have seen Christians always trying to please people so they would feel worthwhile
How do we Become a Free Person?
How do we Become a Free Person?
Living in a free land does not make us free
Attending Church does not make us free
Being religious never made us free
We all know to many church people who are uptight, unloving,, and chained to compulsive behaviors and personality quirks (Sometimes we are among them)
English Standard Version Chapter 13
38 Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses
It is by faith we become free.
Forgiveness of our sins leads to freedom
But we must be willing to forgive ourselves
Those today who are teaching us we are all victims do not know the freedom that comes in Christ.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Freedom begins with a relationship with Christ
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Forgiveness and freedom are linked together
Forgiveness and freedom are linked together
Not only must we learn to forgive ourselves but we must learn how to forgive others
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
Our unwillingness to forgive others keeps us from being free
Look at Joseph who was beaten, sold by his brothers, falsely accused of a Crime and get said all of these things were meant by God for good
Who are we having a hard time forgiving
Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’ ”
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Freedom in Christ provided joy in the midst of difficulty and persecution
