Matthew 24:1-14
Jesus Left the Temple
Greek hieron=temple, sanctuary, house of God---Herodafter 500 years of decay and assaults from hostile armies found favor with the jews and began rebuilding the temple [B.C.18] --- temple wasnt completed until [A,d, 65] not long after that A.D. 70 the temple was completely destoyed by the Romans under Titus command leveled the temple 40 years about the crucifixion and his prediction around that time was spot on --- TEMPLE, SOLOMON’S—Before his death David had “with all his might” provided materials in great abundance for the building of the temple on the summit of Mount Moriah (1 Chr. 22:14; 29:4; 2 Chr. 3:1), on the east of the city, on the spot where Abraham had offered up Isaac (Gen. 22:1–14). In the beginning of his reign Solomon set about giving effect to the desire that had been so earnestly cherished by his father, and prepared additional materials for the building [Easton, M. G. (1893). In Easton’s Bible dictionary. New York: Harper & Brothers.]
and was going away
Greek poreuomai=to go out, depart ---Jesus is leaving the temple for the last time, just before he said in Matt 23:39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until they say,’blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’ --- jesus departed and the next time he will be in the temple when the New Earth and New Heaven Rev 21:1-4 the new Jerusalem
When his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple.
Greek oikodome=buildings, structures ---the BKC [bible knowledge commentary] says it best, after hard ugly debate with the religious leaders the disciple had to be in a tail spine as the words of Jesus still burning in there ears. Jesus denounced the nation and said it would be desolated --- if the nation and temple were destroyed, how can the Massiah rule?
But he answered them,
Jesus answered them Four disciples, Peter, James, John, and Andrew (Mark 13:3)
“you see all these, do you not?
Jesus really intended to get their attention, could have just started with --”Truly, I say to you,”
Truly, I say to you,
Now, Jesus also could have just said,”I say to you” but instaed cements the Pronoucement of what He is about to tell the Disciples by saying,”Truely” then goes on to say,”I say to you...” ---I think a pause is needed at this point to ask our selves how big is what Jesus is about to say to the disciple, but even more to us who through the ages when reading these very work of Jesus and what He is about to say is monumental!!! These words need to be reflected on---pondered and wait on the Holy Spirit to answer
there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down”
The discilpe can’t fathom what Jesus is saying, but we can. Only because we’ll at the other end of this prophetic word from the Lord. This should make us tremble with awe and fear. Because if we truly take our heads out of the sand, we then can open our eyes, ears and hearts to what is coming upon this earth. Just look at A.D. 70 and the fullfillment of the total destruction.
As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying,
”Tell us, when will these things be,
and what will be the sign of your coming
and of the end of the age?”
And Jesus answered them,
“See that no one leads you astray.
For many will come in my name, saying,’I am the Christ,’
and they will lead many astray.
And you will hear of wars and rumors of war. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,
and there will be famines
and earthquakes in various places.
All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation
and put you to death,
and you will be hated by all nations
for my name’s sake.
And then many will fall away
and betray one another.
And many false prophets will arise
and lead many astary.
And because lawlessness will be increased,
the love of many will grow cold.
But the one who endures to the end
will be saved.
And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations,
and then the end wil come.
