Introduction: For there to be worship, there must be those who worship and an object to worship. God’s purpose is to deliver them for the purpose of them offering cheerful service and worship.
God delivers his people out of the hand of their enemies, that they may serve him, and serve him cheerfully, that they may hold a feast to him, which they may do, while they have his favour and presence, even in a wilderness, a dry and barren land.
Due to the fact that God desires WORSHIP, that is enough reason Satan, demons, politicians and YOUR FLESH to appose it! That is exactly what you see transpire here in chapter 5. WORSHIP
1) Their Heart For Worship
A. God’s heart of compassion
Let’s be honest, was there anything special about these people for God to place His desire for them? NO!!
Deut. 7:6-9
God stepped down through the prophet Moses to deliver a people who were saturated with idolatry.
You only find one time they cried out to God; when the persecution God too tough. NOT simply out of worship.
None of us today could ever approach God in worship if God first did not set His love on us!
John 4:23-24
“Spirit and truth” - There must be a covenant relationship with Christ before true worship can be given!
“Spirit” is referring to the fact the Holy Spirit within us leads our hearts to worship God (He daily reminds you of His compassions)
“Truth” - truth (quality) n. — conformity to reality or actuality; often with the implication of dependability.
Philippians 3:3
2) The Objection To Worship
A. The lesser distraction
Notice Pharaoh’s question and statement (v2)
Once again you see how the depraved nature of man ONLY SEEKS SELF!
What was Pharaoh only interested in? Great monuments, buildings, wealth (nothing different today)
Notice how hard he pushes the LESSER worth over the GREATER worth (material over God)
Sadly, many believers TODAY are also trading the blessings of worship and service to God with their extra couch time and binge watching their favorite shows.
B. The people’s desperation
Pharaoh drained them of their worship and purpose.
They pleaded for relief (vv15-19)
Listen, you can sink you life into your job and career, but it will never bring the satisfaction, peace, joy and purpose God brings to you through a life of service and worship.
Illustration: COVID style worship (Bro. Dan’s message)
I believe the people themselves felt an OVERWHELMING DISCONNECT!
3) The Uncertainty In Worship (vv20-23)
A. When you don’t understand
Many of us may have responded just like the Israelites and sought to find blame for the PRESENT OUTCOME!
The PRESENT outcome is never indicative of God FAILING in His PROMISES.
Have you ever had those moments when it didn’t make sense that life happened the way it did?
Moses was having one of those moments.
There was something that Moses had quickly forgot about that God has taught him personally.
Conclusion: (Look at chapter 6:1-2)
