Intro -
Welcome to Maranatha Baptist Fellowship
As I looked at what God would have me preach on and began to pray
And since I am still reading in Genesis
We will continue to be in Genesis
We are just moving on down a few Chapters
This morning we come to the account of Noah’s Ark
Genesis 6:1–7 NASB95
1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. 5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 The Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.”
Remember from last week that God had kicked Adam and Eve out of the Garden because of their disobedience
They begin to grow and multiple
Doing as God has commanded them
They are working and growing
The Sons of God see that the Daughters of man were beautiful
At this point God notices something about His creation and Mankind
Remember that we are the pinnacle of Gods creation and God said that after He made us it was very good
And God says that He can no longer strive with us and the reason He is striving with us is later in the passage
That we are evil
vs5
That every intent was evil
God sees this and because God is a just God we know that He cannot and will not be a part of sin
God is heart broken and sorry that He created mankind
Once the apple of His eye and the greatest creation of God now broken hearted that He ever made mankind
Why church
Because of the sin
1 Samuel 2:2 NASB95
2 “There is no one holy like the Lord, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.
God is a Holy God
He cannot be a part of sin
So when He sees the overwhelming sin from the people that is why God says that He cannot strive with us
God cannot and will not be a part of sin
Just like in Noahs day and just like now
God cannot and will not be a part of sin
And church to make it clearer, if you are walking in sin do not expect God to pour out His blessing on you
Because church God is a holy God
God also does something about that sin
Genesis 6:7 NASB95
7 The Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.”
Just like in the garden when Adam and Eve sinned, there were consequences
God will deal with sin
God put to death an animal to cover their sin, to pay for their sin
So God does something about it
Because there is sin and because every intent of mans heart is evil God will pour out punishment on them
And church I believe that is where we are today
Romans 1:24–25 NASB95
24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
God I believe has turned us over to the desires of our hearts
For far to long we as the creation have told the Creator God that we know better
And The Creator God has said ok let me know how this works out for you
And church our only option to be reunited with the creator God and to be put back into a right relationship with God is to repent
To fall on our faces and repent for the sin in our lives
God is a Holy God and cannot and will not be a part of sin
God will deal with sin
Our only option is to repent and accept the free Gift of Jesus because
God dealt with sin finally
God gave His only son Jesus to die and pay your debt of sin
All we have to do is accept that gift and repent and run to Jesus
In the midst of all the evil going on
Genesis 6:8–9 NASB95
8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God.
God found Noah who found favor in His eyes
Wow
If you ended with 7 we are all doomed
BUT
But changes the outcome of everything
But that doesn’t mean that God will overlook the sin in the world
That doesn’t mean that God won’t do anything
Genesis 6:13–14 NASB95
13 Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. 14 “Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and shall cover it inside and out with pitch.
God tells Noah to make a boat
Because He is about to destroy the earth because of the sin in the world
Because remember that God is a Holy God and will deal with Sin
We know the rest of the account
God tells Him how big to build the ark
Noah builds the ark
God brings the Animals
Everyone goes into the Ark
God shuts the door of the Ark
Then God brings the Rain
Remember this isn’t God playing
This is God who is heartbroken that He ever made man
Because of the sin and evil intent of mans heart
God is a Holy God and will deal with sin
God floods the earth and destroys the world
We know that after 40 days of rain the rain stops and the boat stops
We know that Noahs sends out some birds
2 different kinds of birds to see if they can land anywhere and to see if it can find any food
God speaks to Noah
Genesis 8:15–17 NASB95
15 Then God spoke to Noah, saying, 16 “Go out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. 17 “Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you, birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, that they may breed abundantly on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.”
God gives direction to Noah
And God doesn’t just stop there
God explains that He is making a covenant with Noah
God is going to promise something to Noah that to this day you and I are witnesses to
Genesis 9:8–17 NASB95
8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, 9 “Now behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you; 10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. 11 “I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; 13 I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. 14 “It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, 15 and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 “When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
God tells Noah and His sons that will promises to never destroy the earth with water
God shares with him that He will set His bow in the sky as a reminder to us and to Him that he is to never destroy the earth again
This is a reminder that you and I today still see
We see God speaking to us today when the rains come and go God puts His bow in the sky to remind Himself of the covenant with Noah and all creation
God is faithful to fulfill His promises
When you and I look up at the sky after a rain storm and see that rainbow
We are seeing God remember His promise
Numbers 23:19 NASB95
19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
God is faithful to fulfill His promises
Praise the Lord we serve a God who is faithful
And church When we look at the rainbow we are reminded that God is faithful to fulfill His promises
John 11:25–26 NASB95
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
This is what Jesus promises us
When we see that rainbow it should remind us of what Jesus has promised us
Jesus has promised us that those who repent and believe in Him will not die but live
There is hope in Jesus for salvation because God is faithful to fulfill His promises
And Jesus as promised salvation to those who repent and believe
As the Band comes up
Maybe that is you this morning
Maybe you are here this morning and do not have a personal relationship with Jesus
God has promised salvation to those who would accept His sons death on the cross
Who repent from their sin and run to Jesus
Or maybe you are here this morning and have a personal relationship with Jesus but needed reminded that God cannot be a part of sin and that God will deal with sin and maybe you need to spend sometime repenting this morning
That is our only response is to repent and run to Jesus
Or maybe you needed to be reminded that God is faithful to fulfill His promises
The altar is open
