Kingdom Come - The Big Picture
Kingdom Come - The Big Picture
His Kingdom broke through within a Jewish cultural context
God created the nation of Israel, brought them from Egypt, gave them His law and their land specifically to manifest the inbreaking of the Kingdom via Jesus birth, life, and ministry.
John 20:30-31 contextualizes this story and the entire book.
30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe x that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
The New International Version. (2011). (Jn 20:30–31). Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Twenty-Three: The Power of His Resurrection (John 20:19–31)
He claimed to be God come in the flesh, the Son of God, the Saviour of the world. That is what He is!
John was not content simply to explain a subject. He was an evangelist who wanted to achieve an object. He wanted his readers to believe in Jesus Christ and be saved! He was not writing a biography to entertain or a history to enlighten. He was writing an evangel to change men’s lives.
He went to Jerusalem for an unnamed Jewish feast (they loved to party!) 5:1
That reveals his cultural connection
His willingness to more widely expose His Presence
He initiated contact without anyone requesting His intervention 5:6 (grace)
