Introduction:
1. Man has made many different plans of salvation.
A. The sinners prayer.
B. Saved by faith alone.
C. Saved by grace only.
2. There are as many slightly different variations on these plans of salvation as there are number of different denominations in the world.
A. This is the problem because God says there is only one plan of salvation.
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
1. Man has complicated God’s simple plan of salvation by perverting it.
6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.
A. This perversion of God’s plan of salvation robs the gospel of its saving strength and curses the individual.
8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
1. When this perversion takes place all worship to God is vain.
9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”
3. The blessing in all of this is that amongst all the chaos and confusion of all the different denominations and their plans of salvation God has made His plan plain and simple to understand.
33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
A. If you desire to know the truth all you have to do is seek it.
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
1. This is because God has made the truth available and it can be known.
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
2. This truth is what we are to be sanctified by.
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
B. It is in getting to know the truth that we get to know and understand God’s plan of salvation.
11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
1. Getting know the truth helps one to get to know and understand God’s plan of salvation because the gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
A. So lets get started understanding God’s plan of salvation.
Body:
1. The first step in God’s plan of salvation is everyone must hear the gospel.
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
A. If someone is going to be saved by God’s plan of salvation then they must hear the gospel.
1. In every conversion story in the Scriptures the gospel is proclaimed.
A. Day of Pentecost where three thousand souls were saved— Acts 2.41.
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.
B. Simon the sorcerer from Samaria—Acts 8:9-25
4 Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word.
C. Ethiopian eunuch—Acts 8:26-39
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.
D. Paul—Acts 9:1-19, Acts 22:1-16
6 So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
10 So I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, ‘Arise and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all things which are appointed for you to do.’
E. Cornelius—Acts 10:1-11:18
13 And he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, ‘Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter, 14 who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.’
F. Lydia—Acts 16:1-15
13 And on the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside, where prayer was customarily made; and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there. 14 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.
G. John’s disciples at Ephesus—Acts 19:1-5
4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
A. John prepaired the way for Jesus.
1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2 As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.” 3 “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’ ” 4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
2. The second step in God’s plan of salvation is everyone must believe the gospel.
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
A. If someone is going to be saved by God’s plan of salvation then they must believe the gospel.
1. In every conversion story in the Scriptures the gospel had to be belived.
A. Obedience is the key to understanding whether or not someone believes the gosple.
1. Jesus became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.
9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
A. Thus if someone has been obedeint to the gospel it can be inferred that they believe.
1. This is why Jesus only had to say “but he who does not believe will be condemned” at the end of Mark 16:16.
A. If you do not believe you will not be obedient thus you will not be baptized.
2. So, if we can show later in the sermon that in every conversion story they were obedient to the gospel and baptized then we can inferr that they all believed whether it was directly stated or not.
3. The third step in God’s plan of salvation is everyone must confess that Jesus is Son of God.
32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
A. If someone is going to be saved by God’s plan of salvation then they must confess that Jesus is the Son of God.
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
1. If one believes then one is going to confess that Jesus is the son of God.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
A. Since confession is necessary for salvation then if one believes and “will not be put to shame” then confession can be inferred in every conversion.
2. In every conversion story in the Scriptures confession had to be made that Jesus is the son of God.
4. The fourth step in God’s plan of salvation is everyone must repent of their sins.
3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
A. If someone is going to be saved by God’s plan of salvation then they must repent of sins.
1. The Scriptures recordes that anyone who desires to be saved must repent of sins with no exceptions.
30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”
2. In every conversion story in the Scriptures repentance had to be proceed salvation because repentance leads to salvation.
10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
A. This concept is show on the day of Pentecost when the people asked what they must do and Peter responded repent and be baptized.
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
5. The fifth step in God’s plan of salvation is everyone must be baptized for the forgiveness of thier sins.
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
A. If someone is going to be saved by God’s plan of salvation then they must be baptized for the forgiveness of thier sins.
21 There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
1. In every conversion story in the Scriptures the people were baptized for the forgiveness of their sins.
A. Day of Pentecost where three thousand souls were saved— Acts 2.41.
41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
B. Simon the sorcerer from Samaria—Acts 8:9-25
13 Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done.
C. Ethiopian eunuch—Acts 8:26-39.
38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.
D. Paul—Acts 9:1-19, Acts 22:1-16
16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
E. Cornelius—Acts 10:1-11:18
47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
F. Lydia—Acts 16:1-15
15 And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So she persuaded us.
G. John’s disciples at Ephesus—Acts 19:1-5
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
2. There is not a conversion story anywhere in the Scriptures that does not include baptism.
6. The sixth and last step in God’s plan of salvation is everyone must be faithful until death.
10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Conclusion:
1. Now that you have heard from the scriptures God’s plan of salvation the question is—are you brave enough to stand with God?
A. The world will tell you all you need to do to be saved is...
1. Say the sinners prayer.
2. Have faith.
3. Or grace alone saves.
B. But, God says...
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
1. The question remains though—do you have the courage to stand up for the truth?
2. If you do have the courage and you have not went through these five steps then do not wait—Do it now and stand with God.
