Turn to Acts 2
Stand And Read Acts 2:37-38
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
One Point: Repent…Every One Of You
Jesus rode into the city with the people crying out “Hosanna”
Jesus has His last supper with His disciples
Judas betrays Jesus and Jesus is taken into custody
Peter swears he will stay by His side until death even
Peter follows the captors from afar to the high priests palace
Where Jesus was being questioned.
Matthew 26:64-67
Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
Just outside Peter was looking on as all of this happened and just like Jesus said, Peter denied that he even knew Jesus three times.
By the way this mock trial with false witnesses was illegally held at night.
Verse one of Matthew 27
When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
Judas felt bad and tried to give the betrayal money back.
…It’s not good enough to just feel bad about sin.
11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. 15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. 16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. 17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? 18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
Barabbas was 500 feet away and he couldn’t hear Pilate but he could hear the crowd.
21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
We all know that they nailed Him to a cross and crucified Him and laid Him in a borrowed tomb.
His disciples all ran away scared and hid, but Jesus rose again and encouraged His disciples to wait on the power of the holy spirit.
Well what we call the day of Pentecost did come.
Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
People from all over the world were there hearing the gospel from the disciples in their own language and then Peter preached a sermon.
Let’s join in at Acts 2:21-39
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
What shall we do
Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus
For the remission of sins and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost
What does repent mean:
A change of mind in retrospect with regret to the choices you’ve made before and coming out with a wiser view of the past and the future, and repentance is real when you have a true change of heart towards God.
In Matthew 4:17 Jesus says “ From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
There was a time when God overlooked man’s ignorance.
In Acts 17:22-30
22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. 23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. 24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
Jesus is the living Lord who calls on every man everywhere to repent because The Kingdom Of God Is Among Us.
