22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”

our text does not tell us how far away it the boat was but the account in the Book of John does. The Apostle John tells us that they had rowed about three or four miles.
19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid.
our text tells us in verse 25 that it was the fourth watch of the night.
25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
14:25 fourth watch. The Roman military divided the night into four watches of three hours each, from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. The fourth watch would have been between 3:00 and 6:00 a.m., which means the disciples had been battling the storm for over nine hours (cf. “by this time,” v. 24).
we are going to go through rough times in or life in Christ! Preachers that don’t preach on the rough times do the people of God a disservice!
The New Testament tells us that tough times are coming!
6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,
12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 Therefore
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
a lot of Christians talk about dealing with the disappointment of no from God, but, what about when He says yes?
when Jesus said yes then Peter had to get out of the boat!
Are you ready for Jesus to wave you on?
30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
notice that peter was not perfect in walking out his yes.
Peter was a fisherman, i’m sure this was not the first time that he saw contrary seas. it was the first that he saw them from outside of the boat!

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
even if we sink when we step God is faithful! no mater what He wins!
because we are in Him when He wins we Win!
now that doesn't mean that we get sloppy and careless as we fallow Christ, we are still called to be good stewards of what God has given us!
what it means is if fear is our only reason for pause, then there is no reason for pause.
We have not been give a spirit of fear!
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
